I'd like to see the grounds for that; :P

the strap was poorly manufactured

my wrist is too big for the strap (like my hand is too big for the N64 gamepad)

In real bowling, you have to let go of the ball, so I naturally let go of the device

sounds like something you would hear on judge judy

Try to read the archives of gaming blogs like joystiq or kotaku around the time of the Wii launch and you'll find lots of stories of people breaking their tvs with Wii remotes.
Now lots more people own a Wii, but mysteriously the number of reported accidents have gone down...
Only idiots let go of the Wii remote while playing and throw it against the TV. :P

Well now I'm hearing that as far as picture goes DLP is the way to go. The only drawbacks being that they're MUCH deeper and not wall mountable, some do this sort of "rainbow effect" (unless they're more than one chip), and the bulbs burn out and need to be replaced every 10,000 hours. But they're MUCH cheaper and I'd be able to afford at least a 57". I'll have to go check them out for myself.

DLPs have a great picture, but not such a big viewing angle.
There's always a drawback somewhere. You have to let your eyes and purse decide at a store.  ;)

vealchop

See I thought that too. But from what I'm reading it's rear projection TV's that have horrible viewing angles and newer DLP technology has a fantastic viewing angle. I just gotta see for myself I guess!

Hmm... last month I was in a shop and saw a new Sony DLP, which was quite big and it had a horrible viewing angle.  :-\ The sales person made a valid point, though.
"If you watch TV from the side you're doing it wrong anyways." (with a smile)
One good thing is the price. They're really much cheaper than Plasma or LCD TVs of the same size.

make sure the pixel refresh rate is small or you wont be able to play games properly. i'd say about 8 or 6ms would be ok, but dlp's tend to have high reresh rates like 16ms, thats horrible, you'll see lag while playing video games, especially punch out.....

I thought refresh times weren't even an issue any more, because of the advanced technology.

I played Virtua Tennis 3 (PS3) on a big Sony DLP and there was absolutely no lag, despite the ball moving quite fast. I guess when you buy good brand TVs there shouldn't be a problem. I could be wrong, though.

Ya supposedly the technology based around DLP has improved quite a bit in the last year or so. I wasn't really digging the idea of spending 2,500 on a 46" plasma just so I can hang it on the wall, so the 57" DLP for half the price AND better picture is a small price to pay for sacrificing wall mounting.

I like the sound of 57"...
If you have the room to put up a DLP I guess that's the route to go for you.

I'd like to brush the dust off of this thread with a bump.

We're looking into getting a new TV for my grandparents for Christmas for their living room.  When my grandma married my current grandpa, he had a TV that he's had since 1978, and it's a HUGE console TV, and now they want a new TV in it's place.  It works fine, it's just so damn big!  So, now that two years have passed, has anyone who's posted in this thread (who's still an active member) changed their opinion at all?  What about those who haven't?  Personally, I could care less, but we want whatever will be better for them.

I haven't changed my opinion at all about keeping whatever old TV you have. :P

Seriously though, TVs are constantly being made & creating garbage.  Don't trash old stuff!

nintendodork

We definitely aren't planning on trashing it.  We're going to move it to their basement for now, which is fully furnished and is where I sleep whenever I stay there. :P  It'll be nice to have another TV down there.

Plasma < LCD < LED.  Go for a 1080p LCD.  LED are nicer, but they're still hella expensive.
