not that snk is that big a deal but snk made neo geo games until 2004 and didnt put esrb ratings on the box

First Amendment "free speech" rights on vgs could be abridged on through the commerce clause. Congress has the authority to restrict products -- I guess vg companies could give their stuff away for free, that would solve the issue.

see above, and most snk games featured blood and gore aka samurai showdown, though it was kinda censored in the us it could be accessed with a cheat code

I don't especially like this game in question, but a ban is a bit too much in my opinion.
There are lots and lots of very graphic and brutal movies out.
They should rate it properly so that only adults are allowed to play it and there should be no problem.
Adults should have the right to decide for themselves what they want to play and what not.

Maybe children should better not play this particular game.

I agree. The game is not for everyone. I'm not so much a fan of the gore as I was the interesting steath/hiding techniques that use shadows and stuff, and the plot itself was really cool. Although I have to say planning to release the game on Wii was a HUGE mistake. Their core audience are the XBOX/PS users.

I wouldn't say that. I think there are a lot of Wii owners who would buy the game, especially those hardcore guys starving for new games. On the other hand I'm sure it'll shift a lot of consoles when it comes out.
Anyways, the game would have gotten an AO rating on any console, so the problems are the same imo.

I've said this months ago (and oddly enough, almost everyone on game sites disagreed with me); releasing Manhunt 2 on the Wii is completely counter-productive to the core Nintendo strategy that has so far, rocketed on the way to #1 this generation: Families, their children, and other non-gamers.

I guarantee you that if an "AO" version of Manhunt 2 was released on the Wii, Mom would think twice about letting their kids own a console that would potentially give kids the ability to slash someones throat with the Wiimote. And for those who say "Kids shouldn't be playing Manhunt 2 anyway, so what's the big deal?" There is already a game where you can slash people's throats on the Wii.
Resident Evil 4. As far as I understand those people aren't even Zombies, so basically it's the same. 

I understand the point though.
Moms can be very resolute.

I don't care anyways. Such games aren't my cup of tea.
It's just questionable why they rate far more brutal movies lower.

Ultimately I guess, I just hate big corp. telling what I can and can't see. If I want to lay down money and play the game, I'm an adult and should be able to make that decision. I'm allowed to go see Hostel 2 or buy Hostel 1 without a problem, I should be able to play a violent video game. I'm worried about what this means for the future of mature-themed games as a whole though.

There wouldn't be a problem on the other hand if the console makers would allow AO rated games on their platforms.
