Stan

The Dragonball series is still very playable if you're familiar with the story.

Doc

Not really. I can see how it is kind of (the higher the card, the more turns you move/more of a chance you attack first.), but the text menu screens (especially in that one Dragon Ball Game), can be real bothersome. Expecially when you have to memorize which screens lead you to something better.

Stan

True, you do have to figure it out, but once you do it's a breeze generally.  A friend of mine and I used to play it a lot and he beat them without knowing Japanese.  I still have his copies actually....

Doc

Stan

Techincally, yeah, I have all of them and they're his.  I mean Dragonball through Z III.

Doc

Ahh yeah. And the original Dragon Ball is easy to work with, not much Japanese text.

Stan

Yeah, and it's so much better in the original format.  I mean, Dragon Power is freaking hilarious because of the poor translations, but got to love the stuff when it makes sense.  The Z games are harder, but when you get the icons figured out it's easy.

Doc

Yeah, I love Dragon Power for its ridiculousness in translations and characters. I mean, Maste...I mean, Turtle Hermit wants a SANDWICH?!

JC

Just a recap...don't buy...

BeBop High School
Detective Club games
Dragon Ball (Z) games -- disputed
Marsa no Onna
Minelvaton Saga
Saint Seiya
SDGundamGachaponSenshi3
Tenchi Wo Kurau

I'll probably post this list on FW sometime in the near future and update as we discover more games that are difficult to play when you don't know Japanese.

Jedi Master Baiter

JC

A good question that didn't get answered, Jedi.

I think we should add to this list Fat Cat in the Spaceship of Shame. No matter how hard I try to navigate the menus to start the game, it doesn't work for me. :P

Both Ys games for Famicom is very much in Japanese. I'm looking for a translartion so I can get a NES repro made of the first one.
