So today I was testing out some FDS disks on 2 Disk System consoles I have and one of my games that used to work 2 months ago no longer works. Did the disk somehow go bad due to how I stored them? Did it somehow demagnetize? All my other games in the box with it work fine though...

Would storing FDS games in a metal box help protect them against possible magnetic fields? Or does this just naturally happen? I think I should be able to rewrite the game on the disk in the future though.

EDIT: Just finished a third FDS, and it only works on this one. Why do some games only seem to work on certain machines? Probably poor condition of the disk makes it really sensitive. I also have this copy of Zelda 2 that also only works on one of the 3 systems.

They're delicate little things, that's for sure!

You can experience similar problems when a disk has been rewritten, if the drive has been aligned a little out of factory spec (but still working), other FDS systems can struggle to read them.

I know it isn't the storage that causes this problem, so I have changed the topic to 'Certain FDS disks only work on certain FDS drives'.

I'm guessing the only way to fix this problem is to just take apart the FDS and try calibrating again? My drive must be 90% calibrated, but just needs to be tweaked a little bit more for 100% reading.

I just popped in a Mario 2 disk that I thought didn't work and it only works in my best FDS drive I have that works 100% with my working disks.

Not only. Somewhere should exist "master disks" for repair shops. And one more way... a bit more complicated than "aligning spindel"  ::)
I don't buy, sell or trade at moment.
But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy

Sometimes disks don't work with some systems.

You sometimes can calibrate the system to work with ONE problematic disk but then you put in another it won't work with that .
So, don't overdo it.

Disks don't degenerate.
