Zelda breath

What's your thoughts on the Zelda: Breath of the Wild?

I think we all wanted a more western/Skyrim type Zelda game and now that we have it... I don't know if  I like it. From what I saw, it didn't look very exciting. Maybe it's just one of those games you need to play instead of watch, but the world seems kinda empty and boring. I do like how you start the game without a lengthy intro.

I think the lack of music sucks. Yes, I know there is some ambient music, but no bold overworld theme. One of my main complaints with western games is the lack of music. It makes the world seem even more empty and boring.

I like how you can do stuff in any order you want, but at the same time I like to have some clear objectives. I really do like the Zelda 1 'open world' feel - it's very important to me! I like being able to explore off to the side and do stuff how I want.

You know what I didn't like, that every time you received an item a dialogue box popped up.  They should have just had you collect items and then have you figure out what they do.

I haven't said it until now, but, I really don't like the look of the game so far.  Don't like the art style, don't like the open world nature, don't like the character design, don't like the Amiibo stuff, don't like that it's for WiiU.  All these things make me a minority I know, but it just doesn't have that Zelda magic for me at all, it feels like a poor man's Skyrim or something, and I like Skyrim even less...

So yes I am aware that makes me unpopular, but someone has asked so I can actually post my impressions now in earnest.  Looking on Instagram and Facebook at fans who are all "I cried, thank you Nintendo" and a similar reaction for Kojima's teaser, I just don't get it at all.  I like games for games, not CGI theatre or these vast open-world 'experiences' :(

But then again I always loved Twilight Princess partly because it was open (but still linear-led) and I think Minish Cap is the best 2D Zelda, and I don't think OOT is that amazing.
Thing is, I also think Link plays better right-handed, so I'm a heretic in that sense and for all these other reasons.  But that's my personal take on it all.

TL;DR - I thought this would be the game I finally got a Wii U for, and now I know that I probably won't get one at all.  I know, I know, my loss etc. etc. but it just does nothing for me right now.

I checked out some videos of this game tonight, first time seeing it, and it looks amazing.  I'll probably never play the game since I don't really buy modern gaming machines anymore, but it still looks nice.

LET I don't think anyone will hate you for giving your honest opinions. At least not here, we are not so fanboyish I think.

I think Skyward Sword is the most beautiful Zelda game of them all and I hate the Wind Waker Toon Link character design (but I don't mind the cel-shading on it's own), so this game is looking great IMO.

Open world seems to be big among Japanese developers lately, it has been a big thing among western developers for years so it's kind of interesting. If done right I think it's good. Haven't played Skyrim but it feels like they took inspiration from the Monster Hunter series and Shadow of the Colossus (you can climb everywhere) like TP also did. I also like the non-linearity of the earlier Zelda games but I usually don't do dungeons out of order (except for dark world dungeon 6 that I do before 5 so I have Somalia's Wand in 5) so it's not a big deal that they made that impossible in OOT (well mostly) and later games. I do however like when you need to figure out yourself where to go next like in old RPGs.

I have to admit that I want this new Zelda partly just because it's the next big Zelda game and I'm a sucker for the series, but I also love the new nature theme with hunting and cooking elements. I don't like that Link is right-handed though. Since there's no motion control it doesn't make sense. I'm left-handed myself so it always felt right to have the sword in the left hand.

Anyway I wasn't disappointed by Skyward Swords so I can see myself getting a Wii U in the nearest future.

Heh I hardly consider those Capcom games Zelda games. Minish Cap is a cool game but it doesn't have the right Zelda feel to it.

I've played most of the zelda games, excluding handheld versions, and they have always been a great game no matter how strange the new changes nintendo introduced to the game.  I didnt like the trailers for majoras mask and twilight princess before they were released and i ended up really enjoying them. I'm sure Zeldas breath will be a great game.

I was expecting like a little more, a little more awesome but what they showed was great nevertheless. I love the fact that this Zelda game will too have voice acting for the narrator like Hyrule Warriors did - Great 'cause it beats reading all the text boxes and if there's action then I just need to listen to her.

P

Funny, I strongly prefer text boxes over voice acting. I don't mind voice acting if it's done well, but there should at least be subtitles as well. And if it's a foreign language like (in my case) English or Japanese, it's much easier to read than listen to recorded voice acting (a recorded voice is always harder to comprehend than a real person's due to imperfections in the recording I mean).

Though I guess the audio quality in modern games are very good, which makes recorded voices much clearer.

The game looks great to me. I never enjoyed any of the 3D Zeldas that I've played, but this one reminds me of Zelda 1 with its open-world style. In my eyes, it's everything a 3D Zelda game should be. I'd much rather do dungeons at my own pace than be forced to do them in order.

One of the only problems I have with it is the art style. I don't care for the cel-shaded art in Wind Waker, but at least it looks toned down this time.

Have you tried TPHD? It's downright a wonderful remaster of Twilight Princess. WWHD.. should've skipped it altogether because I found it to be more of a pain than enjoyment.

I played TPHD pretty recently (about a month ago), but lost interest pretty quickly. I even liked it at first, but I got annoyed with how tutorial-heavy it got around the dungeon part where you start playing as the wolf (which is admittedly pretty early in the game). Then I decided to take a short break from it and I haven't picked it up again yet. I'll probably try to finish it soon.

How linear is it?

P

TP is very linear in the beginning (like WW) but later it gets less and less linear and I think you can do some dungeons at a certain point in any order you want if I remember correctly. It has the non-linear side-quests as all Zeldas but maybe not as much as non-linearity as WW, which even has one of it's main-quests being totally non-linear (which I enjoyed a lot). Also it has arguably the most enjoyable fishing of any Zelda so far (a bit on the easy side though).

How does it get tutorial-heavey? I think it's mostly in the beginning.

This linearity in the beginning is important to not overwhelm new players I think, and even modern Zelda games have a good balance of linearity later IMHO, but I like the non-linearity of earlier games where you are not told every single detail what to do next.

FamicomRetroGamer

TPHD starts out a bit slow but as the game goes on it gets much MUCH better and super thrilling as you progress. I admittedly did finish the story mode but haven't gotten around to playing the 50 level stage which I apparently need the Wolf Link amiibo or something.

L___E___T

The Cave of Ordeals?  You shouldn't need an amiibo for that - it's on the original, I remember playing through it fervently way back when to get the ultimate reward.

I just had a look online - I think the amiibo just insta-teleports you there - but it's a second cave of ordeals?  So there are two 50-stage levels/areas?

"Tap in a Zelda or Link amiibo, though, and Link will receive hearts. The Wolf Link amiibo, meanwhile, transports you immediately to 'The Cave of Shadows.'
Like the 'Cave of Ordeals' from the original, the cave offers increasingly tougher waves of enemies (in a dark and admittedly bland environment) and great rewards like huge-capacity rupee wallets."

Cave of Shadows? So it's like a second Cave of Ordeals. I understood it as the Amiibo is used to save your progress in these two caves. Then you will be able to use the Amiibo with TP data in Zelda Breath so that Wolf Link becomes a pet of Link in Zelda Breath.
