sitting here with 50+  bootleg disks(most arrived with read errors or were copymaster format)
have a sharp twin
original famicom hooked to 7201 drive
av famicom hooked to a original 3206 drive
and
trying to figure out how to import save files from pc emulator  to the famicom disks

I have a fdsstick
and a pair of write modded drives as well

I have backed up a real famicom disk version of Zelda and Metroid
and have been experimenting

tried virtual nes
fceux
nestopia

all 3 will load ad play the backups made with fdsstick

all 3 will also see my save I created on the famicom (tried this on all 3 hardware setups)
but after playing the games and saving on the pc
when I write the file back to a disk  it either shows the original save
or it has erased the save

if I copy it back to the pc
then the emulators  read all the save info created on pc like it was always there

anyone tried this
is what I want to accomplish possible

if so what are the correct steps

(really want to do some hex editing on the pc and transfer to the actual disk)

To avoid permanently changing the disks (as many FDS games doesn't allow to delete the save data), the emulators keeps any changes to the disk in a separate file. I don't know if FDSStick can read these save files? But some emulators (I think Nestopia) has an option to save directly to the disk image file instead in a separate save file. Maybe you can use this option to write your saves on the disk image (keep a backup of the disk image that you don't touch). Just be careful with this option if you play other disk images whith this option on, those may be permanently changed.

Purifying FDS Disk Dumps
In this thread we try to reinitialize disks to their initialized state.

A+ thanks

that did it

kinda had it hidden in a odd spot

now I  at least i can have some fun with all these pirate disks

when I got them only they yellow ones  worked (ninjndo and ninindo  branded lol)
most of the rest would throw read errors
out of the lot I only ended up with 5 that would not read after being written
and since I have so many drives I was able to tune my write drives  and pretty confident that they will run in 99% of disk systems (my sharp twin is very picky lol)

did you back up the Game doctor images before re-writing? i never thought i would get a game doctor, had a bunch i didn't dump, and a month later got a super game doctor 4m+ :( was hoping you might have backed up the images before re writing

I did back up a few  that were labeled
rock man 1 , 2 , top gun , ect

most just had numbers on them and were 2 disk sets (so would be larger famicom carts so not to interesting around half of the white disk in picture )

one that was not a game doctor but was interesting  that I did make a backup of was called Mario all swimming
its Mario 2  but hacked so you always have fire power , and every level acts like its water

most were not game doctor format but had read errors  on side b so I just restored them to what they originally had on them (all the blue and black disks  and the white disks in the box with the sexy invaders )
most of the white ones that were not game doctor  were porno games

So you found Rockman 1 and 2 unofficially ported to disk? Were there any differences in those versions?

discgolfer72

they are both game doctor disks
so are just a copy of the cart version
and only playable with a game doctor device
(I don't have one)
so I have no way to even test

that's why I backed them up on my pc so if I ever do end up with a game doctor I can give them a whirl

skyway1985

any chance you could email me the images to test? i have a game doctor 4M +
