When did the Famicom start using the FF logo?

Around what year? I personally have a Famicom in the 10 million serial number range without the FF logo with Rev 07 board, but I have seen them as high as 12 million. All I know is the FF logo Famicom have a different board and different serial numbers. When year did this transition begin? And why do people tend to prefer Famicom without that logo?

Everything I can find suggests that the Famicom Family logo is something Nintendo used from 1988 onwards.  It looks like some early games that were reprinted included the logo - they wouldn't have made the entire stock of (for example) SMB at the release date.  Compare these two SMB boxes:

Also, did you guys know there are TWO Nintendo logos (and they still use them both!)?

I made a discovery recently that I don't think is reported anywhere, and it needs more research.

But it's related to this, so I might as well mention now.
