Thanks to DaBears detailed post with pics I got this CPU 1983 (No revision) board 3 (little 3 close to P1 port) functioning with good picture quality. I searched and searched until I found the lowest serial number I could & purchased many others in the process. I browsed through hundreds of them before finding this one with a slick dust flap (instead of textured) & actually when I started the mod I didn't really know just how early it was & after reading on here I see it's possibly a recalled board. It did have components added on bottom which I thought someone had added but long story short see now Nintendo done it. It wasn't working when I got it the video was messed up with radio station picked up & after removing the bottom components game image would not come up at all but radio station picked up really good. Lucky someone on here had the same components shown on a earlier board and I put my components at the spots they were and it worked to my surprise. I also added a NES controller connector internally so I have a few extra feet of cord. Pic links.

nice mod, need only retro bright :)  8)

I thought of trying to bring the white back and even thought of spray painting the top white but then figured I would rather just allow it to show it's age I'm kind of fond of it not trying to hide it's age.  ;D

Awesome. I've always been fond of the square button Famicoms! Everyone else I know prefers the later revisions though. :upsetroll:

Thanks. I like the old square buttons too because I know they are almost old as I for one thing so that makes me a bit more nostalgic feeling. That being said the square buttons from a functional aspect sucks compared to the round buttons. I wish Nintendo had made the square buttons plastic instead of rubber because they'd be great like that. The fact they are rubber just messes with timing and sensitivity I've discovered after just a minute of play Mario 3. I can see why so many Japanese has the controller 1 switch out to round button which is how this early one was done. Also, this one is so early it won't play my 150 in 1 aliexpress multicart which I find weird because it seems to work on all the later ones I've tried even on revision 5 boards but not this 3 board. I'm thinking the later the famicom the more compatible it is with famiclone carts but I have several that won't work in any of the famicoms I've tried. Like the micro genius I got with 3 or 4 clone games that only work on it and nothing else I've tried.

That's why Nintendo switched out the rubber square button controllers so they are rare now. I wish they'd went with hard plastic on the START and SELECT buttons as well though, considering how much they are used in games as extra face buttons.

Modern multicarts are of questionable build quality (some may apparently damage your console over time), so it doesn't surprise me too much that they don't work on all Famicom revisions.
