Anything else I might be missing?

If you have Arkanoid II and its controller (the one with an expansion port on it so that you can plugin in a second paddle), you could try plugging the keyboard into it and saving data from the level editor.

I'll pick one up and see.  What is is normally supposed to save to?  It's not on the list I have of Turbo File games.

I suspect it will use the Data Recorder, but I don't have the hardware to test it.  If you load it up in an emulator and try to save a level, it will sit there for a while and then return.  If you hit load, it will wait indefinitely.  So, it's acting very much like a Data Recorder game.  (I actually got it to save to an audio file in the emulator, but it doesn't seem to want to load it).

Yeah emulators have trouble with Lode Runner too. Sorry I promised to test Arkanoid II but I hadn't time to dig up my Famicom yet after a move, I have no paddle though.

Vinnk how do you know Nuts n Milk doesn't work? Do you have the manual for that game?

The most surefire way to know, would be to check for tape recording routines in the ROM, if you know how they are supposed to look like.

I only see one routine in Nuts & Milk with read/writes to $4016 and it's a standard player-1 controller input routine.  I see no attempts to read D1 from $4016 anywhere.

P

I see. It's probably Wikipedia that is wrong then.

And I also saved a Famicom Basic (V1 I think?) test program on the Data Recorder (for a different video).  Sean has V3 and he will try that.
You can tell what version of BASIC you have by going to BASIC mode (it's printed on screen).
If you are going to mention all flavours of Family Basic, you gotta include Playbox Basic as well. It's an older version that Family Basic is based on. Seems very hard to find though. There's also a keyboard for Sharp C1, but I don't know if it has it's own version of BASIC or if it uses Playbox Basic (both are named My Computer Televi).

Quick update.

I really should write here more often but since I last posted we have about 20 newer videos on the channel.  Most of the are smaller, simpler stuff since we both have infant children running around right now.  But I would love to here what you guys think.

The 2 seasons I didn't post about were the:

Summer Dojo 2016: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9Q0B9ucLxwcTvHu9YD0MppDpUG_mcUGk

and our current (ongoing weekly) series,

Spring Dojo 2107: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9Q0B9ucLxweWsAw6hEeIhSZXP2uifLiS

Many of them are a bit experimental.  Some worked, some didn't but again, I would love to here what you guys think.  And suggestions on where we should go from here.

Thanks in advance.
