FDS works on cold start - errors out on restart or game swap

I'm experiencing a strange problem that I'm hoping someone on here as seen before. I replaced the belt on my disk system and calibrated the spindle and I'm getting disks to load from what I'm going to call a cold start (when the system has been off for an hour or so). I can play the game and everything works as expected.

The problem is, If I leave the system on for any length or time and then try to switch games or even just power cycle the console and reload the game, I get error code (usually 22 but sometimes 27).

I've messed around with the calibration, but it doesn't seem to improve or solve the issue, so now I'm wondering if this is some sort of hardware issue that I've missing. Anyone ever had this happen before?

Try to check the voltage. Also compare motor speed on cold start vs after some time.

I'm still checking/trying various things. The voltage and current at the motor seem to be the same at the start and at 5 minutes. The motor speed appears to be the same as well (or as close as I can judge just with my eye and video from my phone). I know the motor speed were adjusted previously as they were set as low as possible when I received them. I set them as close as I could to the speed of my drive in my working Twin Famicom, but I know I could be off a bit as well.

Cluster, am I correct in my understanding that your Famicom Dumper/Writer can be used to test the drive speed? If so, are you selling kits or would I need to DIY myself one?

Yes, it can. Also, it can read/write FDS disks. You need a RAM adapter to use it (e.g. it can't be used with a Twin Famicom). I'm selling DIY kits (PCBs and/or components) as well as assembled dumpers. E-mail me: clusterrr@clusterrr.com or send PM if you want one.
