I'm level 21 in Earth Bound, playing a repro of the prototype in a Mother cart.  It's pretty neat!

I really need to overthrow the xbox and the ps2 for the use of the teev!

I'm gonna have to look into getting a repro of that for my fami after Christmas... always wanted to play the Mother/Earthbound series. :o

I played some Rockman 2 earlier. I've been on a real classic series kick lately.

My only hated stages are underwater levels, as you have little platforming ability and are essentially defenseless the entire time. I can flash through almost any level in SMB, and I tend to sweep through SMB2, until around 6-2, which is an evil water level, and then again at 7-3... One of the most evil stages in the game, with wind and springboards, depending on a great deal of luck.

I actually got so sick of that stage that I played to it, lost about 30 lives and paused the game for three days before continuing. If you think World-7 is tough in the original game, then grab a some whiskey & beer and try it in the sequel...

Anyhow, I'm still on FF3: I now am at L27/28 (almost all four at L28) with three of the tusks, teeth, elemental MacGuffins and the third airship, which moves at snail-speed compare to the first two; luckily, I can go back to the second nautilus craft, and I marked its location on a map so that I can easily find it on the huge overworld. .

I have to say, the enemies in the Ancient Ruins are pure evil. Those creatures that split when you hit them with a melee weapon are horrible! I can imagine kids in Nippon growing up with phobias of splitting sandwiches because of things like this. The spots where you're forced into 'midget' size and need to rely on magic and running are also terrible. They may have been easier if I figured out earlier that I can use a few of the melee weapons as magical items with damaging spells, but by the time I found this out, many of them didn't work on most of the enemies anyway. Really, I wish that I knew about the powers in the claws at the time.

I did have to waste two Elixir (one for WhiteWiz and one for BlkWiz) in the Ancient Ruins, as I ran out of all of their powerful spells (IL3-7) and it is impossible to run from any of the encounters there. In fact, running is essentially instant-death, as it lowers your defense to zero to attempt to flee, and one hit splatters any character.

The real killer is that these bastards award experience points suitable for fifth-level to eighth-level warriors. Honestly, killing a group of monsters that split themselves around twenty times or more netted 320XP!!!! They give great cash awards, but I really don't care about those, as aside from spells, I don't need to buy much of anything, and the few remaining spells are the ones I'd buy purely for the sake of completeness. Most of the remaining equipment in the game can only be found...   :coin: :coin: :coin: :coin: :coin:

Such a cruel game...

I also have a minor gripe that normal potions are not available in any of the outer-world shoppes, so I need to constantly return to the floating world to buy them. Hi-Potions are a complete waste of money, as they cost 10x+ a s much as a standard potion, but only cure about 3x to 4x the HP. Every time I go to a dungeon, I buy around 90 standard potions, saving the WhiteWiz healing spells for emergencies, or for use during combat, then after combat I plow through potions, using the obscene Gil awards to buy more later.

Truthfully, the award fro one splitter encounter will buy 99 potions, wastes 1/4 the arsenal of spells of a mage, and awards nearly no XP. I find myself just using low-power black magic on these things as by the time you have gotten a BlkWiz up to Lev-28, you have 18 first-level spell slots, and you have enough skill with Fire-1 that wen combined with the fire rod, yo do about 100-points of damage with it. That means a lot against the creatures that split when hit in melee that have 1,500HP or more each, but combat takes forever.  :pow:

My strategy for them is to hit them with a big spell, then a couple medium spells, then just poke at them with Fire-1 or Ice-1 until they die, while having WhiteWiz use the Rune Staff to hit them with ice damage, and have the melee guys defend. I tried having them use items on these things, but they miss most of the time (and I mean 99 times out of 100) and they end up taking massive damage (200-400 hits, versus 1 hit), which wastes cure potions and cure magic.

I also finally stopped using the 'Blood' sword, as the game was tossing powerful undead my way, and instead of absorbing HP it absorbs negative energy from them, which deal damage to the warrior using it instead of healing him. That's an evil trick!!!.   :octorok:

I'm hoping to find  new claw soon too, as it feels to be about that time. I discovered one in the ruins, but it is actually less powerful than either of those that I have equipped. What sickens me is that unlike the swords, which you can buy a second of later, the claws appear to be unique. You can't buy a second 'Dragon' claw, for example, to double that attack power: You can.t even find a second one! Did they forget to include that in the shoppes, or did they just decide that one is enough? I did try to de-equip the karateka, in case he was better without them, but his attack power is certainly higher with the dual claws. (I think that he will always have a better attack with dual-weapons in FF3, contrary to popular belief.) ...

I'm sure I've missed quite an assortment of other treasure, but honestly, I don't care anymore. The one good thing about this game is that I have not needed to do much (if any) grinding, although now that I've said that, I'm sure I'll run into a 'Willow'-like spot where I need to grind 30-levels before i can continue. . I did grind for money exactly once, at early levels (around Level-7), but it was not honestly required. I don't recall what I wanted to buy either at this point...

Possibly it was for a spell, or to stock up on potions or something that now seems pointless; I just don't remember, which happens when you play a game over a long period of time. Eh, who am I fooling..l It happens when you go senile... I think I shall go retire for the night, or sit in my chair and drool for a while.  :bomb:
