MegaMan (PAL) on Wii Virtual console
-by the way I'm very dissapointed about the emulation speed, cause it's the PAL (50Hz) speed, cca17% slower than the US/JAP version. They could've fixed this on the Wii...(but if you want authentic European slow-gameplay experience, it's okay)

Hopefully something like this won't happen on 3DS!

Famicom games played in the last period on my AV Famicom:

- Super Mario Bros: I could start my Famicom adventure only with this game, that has also been my first videogame ever, many years ago. Now I have completed both quests even in its Japanese version, and for me is a great thing, the game is identical to its western counterpart for secrets, enemy placement, etc.

- Akumajo Densetsu: One of the best games for the system, hands down. The 4 characters system has never been used again, and it's strange, because it worked great. Grant makes sense in the Japanese version, because he throws daggers. Wonderful music enhanced by the chip inside the cartridge, wonderful levels, challenge and atmosphere. Both loops done a lot of time, absolutely a must-have for the system.

- Akumajo Special Boku Dracula Kun: Game with a lot of humor and full of references to Akumajo series (Alucard vs Garamoth, first stage, etc) and Konami universe (Pentarou joins the quiz at level 5), it's a very nice, relaxing 2d platform with very good 8 bit music, and a must have for every Akumajo fan. In many levels it recalls more Rockman than Akumajo.

Unfortunately here in Europe VC games aren't optimized to 60Hz, and they run on 50Hz and with butchered screen, like they did 20 years ago. It's really a shame, because one person pays to have something that is much worse than emulators that you can get for free, even if illegal. Does Megaman 1 run with slower music like did the nes pal version?  :-[

At least, games that never came out from Japan like Chi no Rondo and Super Mario Bros 2 instead run at 60 Hz and fullscreen.

I really hope Nintendo fixes this with WiiU.

Been playing LOTS of Zelda II on FDS.  It's such an unerrated and unappreciated game.  The more I play it, though, the better I understand what the haters don't like about it.  I think those complaints are legitimate, and the history of Zelda since that game has borne out that opinion.  But there are still a lot of elements from that game that have become essential to the series: a magic system, towns, going on quests for the townsfolk, and (to some extent) jumping.

The change from an overhead 3/4 angle to a largely 2D side-scroller seemed to do a lot for making the world of Hyrule seem more LIMITED.  Only being able to travel left or right seems like it loses something.  (Jumping hardly makes up for that.)  I also miss the plethora of sweet items.  You still GET items in Zelda II, but they're only used in certain contexts, and otherwise are entirely passive.  Any new abilities you get have to be used through the magic system, which means most of the time you're just hitting things with your sword.  No boomerangs.  No bombs.  No bow and arrow.  Unless you count the fire spell, you have absolutely no range attack -- although you do have Thunder (an AoE), but only have enough magic power to ever use it once in a go.

It's also, as my friend Phil Bond mentioned on our podcast recently, the most PUNISHING of the Zelda games.  Sometimes it's just not fun.  But then you get the hang of it, and the idea of literally FLINGING Link's body at enemies in order to successfully attack them.  There are also no health drops; you need to gain the life spell (which you can get before the second palace) and hope that enemies drop enough magic for you to use it.  The game is certainly designed around this approach, especially in the later levels where they sprout those little jelly blobs out of every orifice like delicious candy.  There also aren't a lot of puzzles, just difficult enemies that try to kill you all the time.  Yeah, there's a bit of trial and error in that each palace is laid out so that you need to go a certain direction to get some keys before you can get into certain other spots.  EVEN WORSE, some areas of later palaces are only accessible by falling through pits -- which, if you've been doing your job of staying alive, by this point you're so programmed AGAINST needlessly falling down pits you'd never try it, get frustrated by not being able to progress, and just give up.

I'm interested in trying Battle of Olympus after this.  I saw it in a used game store about a year ago and picked it up, but never really played it; the last time I saw it was over 20 years ago.  For those who don't know, it has similar aesthetics and mechanics as Zelda II, but ISN'T a Zelda game at all, and wasn't developed by Nintendo.  I remember the hero looking MORE like Link than he does in actuality, but the combat (and to some extent the way the sprites and enemies move) is nearly identical.

Also, in both games you walk to the right.  A LOT.

I just played Super Mario Bros 2, Doki doki Panic!, Metroid,The legend of Zelda The Hyrule Fantasy and Zelda II Link no bouken. I have been experimenting with my powerpack cart. I also just did the powerpack fds sound mod like Xious suggested in a previous post I made a while ago. It worked, but not accurate.
