Can Nintendo Age Beat Every NES Game in 2015?

Picked up 22 NES carts (most with sleeves) and six manuals for a pretty good deal at a friend's yard sale today. Interestingly, only one of the six manuals was actually related to any of the games in the lot. I've got some interest in Tecmo Super Bowl and Xexyz; I've owned and discarded both several times, but I've been wanting to give them another chance recently. TSB is probably the best NES game I don't own; I've just long considered it redundant since I tend to play my Genesis version with more dedication. The rest will all be getting re-sold; I'll get some decent money for the spare Kirby's Adventure and Mega Man 3 for sure.

Free? What, did a friend of yours have one? I just bought a spare SMB2 from a thrift store for $5 a few days ago. They had it marked at $20 originally; there's sadly fewer and fewer options for deals on games all the time. Luckily, this place cuts the price in half every week it sits on their shelf.

After I got back from Japan, I had been looking for the NES and games my cousins and I would always play at my grandmother's house during family events.
I had asked just about every single person in my family where that system and games were at, and it started bumming me out that no one knew..

During this quest, my cousin gave me a box of his cousin's old games and NES. Boxes included with half of them, which was pretty exciting..

Then, just a couple weeks ago, my Dad wanted me to go through some of my old things in his basement, to take to my new apartment.
Eventually, I came across a box that I myself had marked 'video games', which included my SNES system and games, all my old N64 controllers and games, and magically, the box with the NES and games from my grandmother's house. I can't believe it was there the whole time, right under my nose!

I took apart both NES systems, cleaned them really good, and got one of them working again.
Later, I wanted to try physically bending the pins, and ended up breaking a pin on the NES that didn't work at all..   No sweat.. replaced the 72 pin connector with a new part, and did some extra cleaning with a secret solution on the otherboard pins, and WOW. That thing starts up first time, every time!   I still need to go back into the other NES and use that solution on both sides of the motherboard pins, as well as do a more thorough cleaning and slight bending of the original 72 pin connector.  This was my first jump into cracking open and handling systems, and it feels good!

I'll post pictures of my game room soon...

I got eight new NES repros in the  mail today. I just got done testing my first one: Rockman Exile. It was super fun; I meant to try three of the robot master stages and then move on. An hour later, and I've tried all eight stages and beaten four of them. (On normal difficulty, if anyone is keeping track...)

Rockman Exile is one of four Mega Man hack sequels I picked up, along with Adventures of Bass 2, Mega Man: The Battle of Gamma, and Rockman 5: Willy's Dream Space.

I also picked up Bio Force Ape, Buzz & Waldog, Secret Ties, and Sunman. Now, I've got to figure out which one I want to try next!

Everything except castlevania is CIB. Everything but Final Fantasy and Dr. Mario still has the shrink wrap with the horizontal seam (just cut at the seam of the flap to open the box) everything is in amazing condition. I payed $80 CAD for the set. Let me know if I got a good deal or got ripped off. I'm not an expert but I am pretty sure that I got a steal of a deal.

I remember when Secret Ties was first discovered and how excited I was, waiting for that game to be dumped and the rom released.  I really enjoy playing that game, despite its flaws here and there.

I agree, fcgamer. Secret Ties is definitely neat. It's not the most exciting or innovative title from a gameplay standpoint, but it's very solid. But the storytelling elements are really special. Silk's monologues and dialogue give him much more attitude than most protagonists of the NES era; the game is cheesy as hell, but that's intentional and it's really well done. It's inevitable to compare it to the Golgo 13 games, because it's the same developer/publisher and it's another licensed game based on another manga by the same author. And I'd dare say that Secret Ties is a better game, and almost as good a story, as either of the Golgo 13 games. Sadly, platformers were so common toward the end of the NES era that some pretty good ones were left unpublished...

I'm surprised nobody had anything to say about my Nintendo Pickups.

nerdynebraskan

Sorry, Max. I hadn't seen your post, but I think you did fine. I'm not super-familiar with market value on NES boxes; they're kind of neat to pick up, but I don't enjoy them nearly enough to pay going rate for them. But I'm guessing you did well, considering they all look pretty nice and you scored Final Fantasy and CastleVania 1 & 3. (Those three alone would probably be worth $80 or more if they were sold on Nintendo Age.) Most of those are pretty common, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a CIB of Batman, TMNT, or Dr. Mario fetch $10 apiece or more.
