Something that annoys you

That made me remember old Macintosh computers - around Mac OS 7. No memory protection. UGH.
If that poorly coded app or game (which was almost always crippled shareware) decided to write something outside its memory range, it was reboot time... for the 19th time today >:(.

My school is getting Macs next year.  Our PCs suck.  Should I be rejoicing or preparing a pile of moldy tomatoes to throw in rage?

Save the tomatoes for Halloween. New Macs have memory protection and a robust operating system. And you can run Windows on them too.

Good.  Maybe I'll stuff them in my bro's 360 instead.

Our school laptops are really bad.  My mom's PC can run the Google Earth flight simulator well.  My school laptop?  Not so much.  Also, when I open my laptop and take it out of Sleep Mode, half the time the Internet doesn't work.  (THE MICROSOFT PHISHING FILTER IS UNAVAILABLE HURR HURR)  Sometimes the laptop won't let me use the Internet, period, and I have to reboot.  Oh, and this program installed by the school (Aemanager) randomly opens a window to tell me what I'm doing is not allowed by my school.  Even when I'm doing work.  It does NOTHING even the staff would find useful.  I could go on, but typing on a Wii is annoying.

Your school gives you laptops?  My school didn't even give me pencils...

manuel

Yeah, you kids today are too spoiled!  :P

We couldn't even dream of getting something like that.

We don't have personal laptops for school use, but we have carts full of them if a class needs to work on them at one time or something.  During homeroom, we can "check out" computers to do research, write papers, etc.

Our school has mostly PCs, and a few Macs that were given to select teachers.

I hate how every single kid in my grade likes Macs, just because they "look cooler than Windows" At least give a reason ::)

Westhampton Beach High School (where I go) gives laptops to the students for the year.  For work and stuff.  We can use them at lunch.  Fortunately, Famicom World hasn't been blocked yet.

Our servers blocked Wikipedia, but you can still view any page on it in the text-only format...

Famicom World is safe here, too! :P

Our high school lets us use our own laptops, if we have them.  I don't blame them, the school ones are extremely slow.

My school (about 600 pupils) had a whopping total or around 12 PCs with super-fast processors (warning: irony) and Windows 3.1 .

Internet through 1  ISDN connection for all of the PCs.  [irony]That was fun.[/irony]

Wikipedia isn't blocked here, but it's discouraged.  Also, the filter works.  Back when I was in Tuckahoe (Elementary/Middle), Youtube was blocked, but you could get in by typing "youtube.com".  We can't use our own laptops because they're not hooked up to the school server.

Wait, how was Youtube blocked if you still had access?

In WHB, it's not blocked.  In Tuckahoe, it's blocked with crappy software.  Just type in the Youtube URL without the WWW.  But that doesn't matter now, as I graduated middle school.

I saw 4th graders using laptops at my school not too long ago... I remember when I was in 4th grade how I couldn't wait to use a laptop in high school. :-\

If a site is blocked, you can typically still access it by searching it on Google and clicking on the cached version under the search results. It may not be the most recent version or formatted correctly, though.
