I'm curious because I'm considering enlisting in the next 6 months.

Not me, and I don't think I ever would. My cousin is in the National Guard and served two tours in Iraq though. Are you in the US? What branch of the military are you enlisting in?

wentle85

Yeah, the U.S. I'm pretty sure it would be the Army. I've looked into it several times since I graduated H.S. but I kept on going to college. I'm pretty sick of my college major anymore and it's a "prestigious" art school so my credit's won't transfer to a typical university (2 years worth) so I've pretty much decided to go with the only other thing that made any sense for me to do with my life.

Well if it's what you want, go for it. I have the utmost respect for those that serve, plus you get to drive really sweet trucks.  :)

manuel

Inform yourself thoroughly about what expects you, and if you like the thought... go for it.
Pay is quite good I hear.

My wife is a former Navy girl. I've heard some pretty bad stories of some of the vessels and bases she served on. Not that you would have any similar experiences...

I actually didn't make very bad experiences when I did my service. It was only 10 months, 8 months of which I was in charge of the regimental post office.

i would do it for the body exercises, but i dont want to fire at people. Im a huge pascifist, i think..

Who really wants to fire at people? Persons who want to do so should see a doctor IMHO.

Har the cat

i mean if you are gonna join the army, the risk is that you must fire if in combat... i dont want to take the risk

If I were you, I'd just continue in school and work part-time. If you join the military and get killed or injured for the rest of your life, seems like a crappy payout to me just because you'll lose college credits. Then again, I respect those who want to join and fight, but don't 100% believe in our government to do things for all the right reasons. Personally, I'd rather swim across the ocean before I'd fight to keep some already-rich bastards rich.

I take it this was the mandatory service in the Bundeswehr? I've heard really great things about it actually.

manuel

You're right, sir.

Some people say good things about it, others hate it. You'll have to be there to really make an opinion. It largely depends in what field and when you're doing your service.

The US military is a whole different game, though.
