hmm... basically the idea is nice, but with a broken ROM you can't see anything about the game.  :-\

FamicomFreak

Looks kewl but I wonder if it's a real game or just failed homebrew.

Read the page in the second link above.

It seems to be a full game, but is very sloppy.

The cart looks nice.

FamicomFreak

Ahhhh I totally forgot to look at that link. That's one unique cart!

The ROM isn't broken, it just uses some pirate mapper that emulators don't (or didn't -- the article is from 2005) support.  Plus, he offers a patch that will make it work.

I meant the youtube video.

In the video you can't see anything interesting at all. It ends with a Windows error message.  :D

yeah but nobody knows how it works....

UglyJoe

Ah, I see.  The rom that's floating around the internet is not the same rom that the guy who made patch has (he used his own dumper to get the rom).  His patch does seem to make sense, but some of the offsets are wrong.  I might be able to get it working...

I got it to partially work.  The levels load, but the sprites don't.  You can move around the level and everything and get killed by the enemies, but mario and the goombas and the koopa troopas are invisible.

edit: upon further investigation, it's much worse than that.  The graphics get corrupted if you make the screen move vertically...

can you give me the rom that you got  it to partially work?

UglyJoe

I'll post the updated patch file.  Use the tool from that guy's website to apply it.

http://ximwix.net/storage/mario3patch.txt

UglyJoe

Grab the sm3spatch.zip from his website and extract it.  Download my mario3patch.txt file and put it in that directory (overwrite the old one).  Find the rom online and extract it to that directory (you want the [C][b1] rom, not the [C][b1][o1] rom).  Rename the rom smb3s.gbc .  Download this file and put it in that directory:

http://ximwix.net/storage/patchit.bat

Double click patchit.bat and it'll create a file called smb3s_patched.gbc.  That's the patched rom.
