Does anyone remember that auction I posted a while ago of a "modded" NES controller?
It had a hole punched through an empty cart...and the only thing that went through it was the cord on the NES controller....

Do you have a pic ?

nintendodork

Nope, it's probably been buh-leated by now... :(

I was under the impression that a chipped wii could do all that by default.

It gets old fast, lol. :P

There really is no need for a chip for the wii now. its software hacked too now.

I also have the homebrew channel on my Wii with Gecko OS. Why would somone do that to a poor NES controller and cart?

Depends on the kind of mod of course!
I am all for mod-chipping consoles like the PSX, and PS2. I don't even see an issue with someone modding their top loader NES to A/V.I have seen Ataris (standard 2600, and 8 bit computers) that have had video output upgrades. Though I am also a firm believer that if you are going to do this, you should keep an original version of a collectable console around. I have a transparent orange cased PSX, but I Still have a grey box around too. I swap disc modded my PS2 with a trapdoor lid... PS2 isn't really collectable... and aside from the PSX/PS2, my affinity lies with the older stuff anyhow.

But turning a gaming rig into something more efficient has its place.

I also like the hacks a-la Ben Heck... some of that stuff is badass! I really like his 800XL Atari laptop job.... that was uber sweet. And I have NOTHING against hacking an NOAC into a handheld NES/Famicom if  you have the technical know-how. That just LOOKS fun. Of course, the portable SNES is cool too... lots of SNES decks lying around.

I feel NO shame about yanking out my region tabs... Dragon Quest V and VI man!!

I installed Homebrew channel, unreleased VC games, and DVD playback on my Wii.
However, I can tell you all from personal experience, never, ever, EVER put untested .wad files on your Wii. You might as well shovel out the $85 for Nintendo repair service; I was simply creating a custom Earth Bound (Zero) .wad with banner, music, and icon, and I corrupted my machine's memory. If only I had known Starfall with "enable recovery menu" and "disable diagnostic disc check", paired with the Twilight Hack save file on the Wii, could have prevented the brick  :'(

Regarding modification of older consoles, I see it as a waste of time unless some major improvements are made, as with the Famicom AV mod.

I love Benheck mods. I'd like to make portable nes and psx consoles, but I don't have the screens  ;D
Casing would be much easier to make now that I finally have a working cnc machine  ;D
