i am getting one...because.....NINTENDO DSI = HACKS lol xD

Trium Shockwave

Yup, they have confirmed that the DSi firmware is upgradeable like the PSP. And if it can be upgraded, it can be hacked.

I'm gonna move our DSi conversation to the DSi thread :P

Anyway,

Technology needs to go forward, my friend.
You're right, the GBA games had an extremely long lifespan, I think they should call it quits soon...the downloadable games are presented in a more present-day form.  Plus, they're cheaper because Nintendo doesn't have to manufacture carts, which saves everyone money, and the games are full games!

Blue Protoman

And they don't have to make a box, print instructions on paper, or fight for shelf space.

Well, the DSi definitely plays import DS carts without issue. Loaded up my copy of Jump Super Stars just fine.

Nothing I have really takes much advantage of the hardware yet. Used some of my free points to get the Wario Ware game that's completely based on the camera, but haven't tried it.

UglyJoe

I've heard the WarioWare game isn't very good.  I'll probably buy it anyway.

Amazon shipped my DSi on the 4th from New Castle.  That's like 45 miles away from me.  It still hasn't arrived :(

Tupin

I've heard Birds and Beans is good, but who knows, I don't own a DSi.

UglyJoe

They're supposed to be the same exact thing as the two unlockable Pyori games from the original WarioWare.

Gotten to play with it a bit more. The interface is very Wii-like. It even has similar sounds as you move around the menu system. The current selection of DSi Ware is pretty underwhelming, but I imagine that will be growing. I hope they release at a faster rate than they do the WiiWare though, since there will be non-game "applications" as well. It would really suck if the two releases for the week were a tip calculator and a movie review app. They'll really have to open the floodgates if they hope to compete with the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Speaking of Apple, the camera application reminds me a lot of Photo Booth on the Mac. You can do some more interesting things with it than you can with Photo Booth thanks to the touch screen, but it really only makes the novelty last a minute or two more. I haven't messed with the audio program yet.

The browser is OK, I guess. It's certainly better than the "mobile" browsers on most cell phones, but it's still a real pain in the ass to move that little magnifying box around. It's also really, really slow to render. I guess it's better than nothing, and would do in a pinch, but it's nothing I'm likely to whip out frequently. Also, it doesn't come preinstalled, it's a free download. I guess this is so parents could opt not to put it on, but still that's irritating.

I think I'd be a lot more impressed with it if I didn't already have an iPhone. Despite Nintendo's apparent intent with this whole "applications" thing, they will not be beating Apple in that space. If they focus on delivering good, downloadable games, I think they can repulse the iPhone muscling into that territory though. Primarily I bought the DSi because I wanted a DS to play games, and it made sense in the long run to buy the newest hardware. In that respect, I love it. Been playing Jump Super Stars, Retro Game Challenge and Pokemon Platinum. All great. I should've bought a DS years ago. I'm not sure the DSi is a worthy upgrade for existing DS Lite users though, at least not yet. We'll see what kind of downloadable content we get.

Pikkon

Well eventually they will come out with dsi cartridge games.

I did try out the Warioware Snapped game, its ok but its not that great.

MarioMania

Now they bringing out VC game to download  GB & GBA Games on it..Nintendo dosrn't need anymore money

nintendodork

Well, this way, it's more cost-effective...like I said earlier they don't have to do any of the other stuff.  All Nintendo has to do is make the game itself and send it off to the DSiWare store.  Plus, since DSI games start at 500 points, I don't think GB(A) games will cost more than that to download.

L___E___T

I heard the newer R4 cards don't actually work, but there is another card that works - I've ordered one and will check it out when it arrives.

Oh, Nintendo pretty much gave away that they are in fact doing region locked virtual console on the DSi, similar to how the wii one works, so you can still run GBA games in time I think.

The old DS lite won't run them from storage as it needs the ram in the boards, I guess the DSi will run an emulator of sorts so hopefully I can go back and finish minish cap with my save from my psp :)

The cheapest DSiWare games, "Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face" and "Birds & Beans" are actually only 200 points, so they may be even that cheap.
