Doesn't the Dreamcast handle piracy better?
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

Sort of. It doesn't need a modchip but the games need to be modified.
The PS1 came out around 4 years earlier than the DC, that gave it precious time to establish a significant user base (of pirates).

The DC was next gen compared to the PS1, it came out around the same time as the PS2.

I'm not a sony fanboy, but as someone who lived through and was old enough to comprehend the era, it is as clear to me now as it was then that the Playstation was leaps and bounds better than the N64 and espically Saturn.

The Playstation, like its successor, was leaps and bounds better than its competition solely on account of one thing: its library. Sony was able to capitalize on Nintendo's folly of using cartridges yet again and produce games like Final Fantasy VII - games that simply could not be produced on the competition's hardware. Using the strength of the CD and lessons learned about what works and doesn't on CD-games from the Sega CD, Turbografx16 CD and other attempts at CD-based systems before them, Sony really was able to produce noteworthy standalone games. The mixture of knowledge of how to make good games and the execution of talented developers really marked one of the major evolution points in gaming that can still be felt today.

Why do I say this? The Playstation simply had more good games that people wanted to play. This is among the reasons why the Playstation won out over the Saturn of which it was designed to compete with. Indeed, it could even be said that the Playstation outlasted even the Saturn's successor, the ill-fated Dreamcast. So what did the PS1's technically inferior specs matter in the long run?

With PS2 games still being made today dispite the fact that nearly everything else out there is superior, gaming history has shown us twice in a row that superior hardware does not win out in the long run. I believe that this same principle will repeat itself in the long run with Nintendo's Wii, but to a lesser extent since the Wii primarily targets the younger, casual, and non-hard-core gamers whereas the 360 and PS3 crowd are a totally different set of older, more sophisticated gamers.

The Playstation legacy will be the stuff of legends and its no arguing that the Playstation is as an important turning stone in console gaming history since the NES itself. Can the N64 claim the same...?

I pretty much hate it that the n64 got a control stick and some months later, the ps1 got it too. The same happened with the d-pad, made by poor mr. yokoi. I dunno how you say it in english but sony just uses plagiaat... Nintendo made everything! NINTENDO!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SONY SUCKS! DAMMIT! WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!

Sorry, I had the nintendo virus:S

son_ov_hades

Fanboy alert. Oh and I think the word you're looking for is "plagiarism".
