Where must the next Mario game take place?

Looking at Wario Land: Shake It! as well as some other games out there, I've really become fond of the idea of side scrollers that look really nice. Another 2D Mario that looks awesome would be fine and dandy.

If not that... maybe Mario goes into some kind of dream land (sans Kirby and Raz) and can have crazy adventures.

I'd also prefer another 2D Mario. New Super Mario Bros. 2 would be great.
