Cell phones in school

People using cell phones in school really pisses me off.  It's their own fault if they fail the upcoming finals because they texted instead of paying attention to review, thus bringing them that much closer to working at Wendy's for a living.  I swear, if I had a nickel for every time I saw someone use their cell phones in class, I could buy a fancy house!

Well, in this case, my opinion is the same as yours.

Do teachers/schools over there allow the use of cell phones during class?

Nope, they confiscate cell phones here at WBHS.  But I think you can use them at lunch, though.

You can't use them at all from 7:30 to until you get out of school for the day over here.  They're confiscated if a teacher sees them, but our teachers are ignorant, so I see a lot of people doing it under desks during class.  At the high school, though, you can use them at lunch, and sometimes in class.
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

It's the same thing in college around here. They go to the back and start texting like crazy. The teachers only warn the person but they ignore the warning and do it anyways. Most of the time, the people who do this are recent high school graduates.

Hey, shutup! I work at wendy's :P (well, it's part-time...)

But anyways, my old school has some sort of new policy now: Apart from WITHIN breaks and before the first class of the day, anyone caught with electronics (cell, MP3's, even laptops, games, etc.) in the school will have them confiscated until the end of the week. The second time they're caught, it's for 2 weeks (whether it's after the first week ends or if they brought in some other electonic before. In the latter, the first confiscated item will be returned after the 2-week punishment). Third time, it's a call home with a warning, meeting with the principal and a week of random cleaning in the school. Also, any more results in some in-class suspension.

Hey, look! That kid just got beaten the crap out of!

When I was just finishing school it was that time when people were just getting phones, it went from no-one having one to every kid having one within a year.  Good memories :)

Within no time the school got super strict on anyone even seen with a phone in the school, let alone in class.
This was middle England after all.

But the rules were the same, get caught using it and it was likely to be confiscated - except my friend got caught using his (because it rang once then he turned it off) in the voluntary quiet study room.  The teacher at that time was a real arse, most hated in the school and this kid was new, just joined from a rough part of town so he didn't know, everyone was waiting to see what the old guy would say with bated breath.

But, he said nothing..  My friend was so unaware of the old guy's character he walked straight out of the room and took the call, something no-one else would have done so we were amazed.  When he came in, still nothing was said and I couldn't believe it.  It may seem like no big deal but everyone else in the room grew up at that school with that demon teacher, so we were gobsmacked and expected a raping.

A moment later the teacher demanded the phone right there and then, he didn't get it though - I was amazed at that level of 'offence' lol. My mate pretty much ignored him, I though he was either mad or didn't hear somehow.

There was a lot of tension in that room for the rest of the hour, it's hard to describe but you may know the feeling.  Finally, when the end of that period came the old teacher said in his sternest voice something along the lines of  "you, I want a word, alone, you stay while the others go" and looked glaringly around.   Except, my friend pretty much ignored him, bluntly just got up and went to leave..     Then something happened I'll always remember.  The teacher stood up and was visibly pissed.  "YOU!" he said to my mate who was among things an amateur boxer and not bothered by any of it, instead flew into a threatening rage and said "I've taken down bigger cunts than you and this is my phone so if you want it you just come over an get it yeah?"

You can guess what happened..  nothing.  But my point is that say you just bought a brand new iPhone S or DSi, no way would I let that be thrown roughly into some old teacher's drawer.  You shouldn't use phones in class as you are the one who loses out when it comes to learning but I don't think teachers should be able to just remove your property like that.

After all it's a school not a communist camp.

I graduated hs in 1998 and very few (if any) people at the school had one.  They were just starting to become common around the time that I was getting out of college (2002).  Now, I see people talking on them everywhere I go and it's really annoying.
