Ah, so my only choice would be to do a case mod.  From what I've heard, it isn't that hard.

EDIT* Also, does anyone know if Genesis flashcarts exist?  If so, does anyone know where to get one?

There are Genesis copiers just like SNES copiers for dumping/playing ROMs to/from floppy disks. The most common is the Super Magic Drive, or SMD for short.

personally i have both a genesis 1 and 2 and i like the look of the first one and all but the second hooks up so much better to the cd and the 32x. i wish i had an original sega cd but those are few and far between. i found a 2nd gen genesis + sega cd today at the flea market. selling the genesis if anyone wants it.

Had one original Sega CD and sold it. Got another one in but it was busted. (I still have it... Wish I knew how to fix the darn thing.)

I have 3 Sega Genesis.
Two model 1's and one model 2.
I do have the power base converter but I still need to pickup some sms games.

Alright, so I just bought a Sega CD in Omaha.  I'm at my cousin's now, so pics will come later.  It's a model 1, and I know that the physical shape isn't a problem.  Anyway. I haven't tested it yet, but when I shake it, there's something rattling inside..AND instead of an actual official adapter...they gave me the PBC adapter.  It fits, but I have no idea if it will work.  There are also composite inputs on the back, but I didn't get any AV cables.  I thought the SCD only needed a power supply.  So, with this in mind, I have a few questions:

  • Will the PBC power supply work with this?

  • Do I need composite cables?

  • What is the most probable cause of the rattling inside?

Thanks in advance for any help.

DEPENDING on the voltage, I -think- it will work.

It's been a while since I fussed with mine in a while but composite cables arent needed IIRC.  Just make sure the Sega CD and Genesis are FIRMLY hooked together. You just have to have the AV cables in the SCD.

As for the rattling, that could be anything really. From a screw to a piece of plastic inside to a part that will make it so it doesnt work.

For starting it up, both the Genesis and the Sega CD need power supplies. Make sure the Genesis DOESN'T have a game in it and power the Genesis on. If you get the Sega CD insert CD screen you did everything right. If you didn't, you didn't hook it up correctly.

I hope this helps.
hi

Jollie

make sure you hear the startup music too. when i first hooked mine up i did it wrong and i only heard like small sound effects no music.

Ok, I got it to power on...and the disc tray opens, but when I put in a disc and shut it, it opens back up!  What could this mean?

sounds like what happened to my cousins. idk what to tell you. thats my only problem with model ones is that they have small problems.

I can't even open it up all the way to see what's inside because of the Genesis connector on the right side.  Something tells me I'll have to take this back and just keep looking for a model 2. :-\ :(

You could always sell the model 1 SCD for some cash so you can FIND a model 2.

How much did you pay for it?
hi

nintendodork

$20, but I can return it within 30 days, but I'll most likely get store credit for it.  Which will be nice, since they're always getting more stuff in.  While we're on the subject of the model 2, does the PBC power supply also work with the model 2?  In other words, do the model 1 and model 2 use the same power adapter?
