Another good one is actually a combination of music and in-game sound effects.  In the game "Banana" the sound the character makes when he walks just goes perfectly with the game music.

I love Banana! Great game. Also for the famicom, Choujin Sentai Jetman has a great soundtrack. And Mighty morphin power rangers for the Super Nintendo.

I love Shinobi and Kunoichi (Nightshade) from PS2.  They are also very 8 bit in their approach to gameplay and I love that still.

Hard games sure, but you get the same sense of achievement finishing them that you do from Rockman 2 etc and the music is just as good if not better.
You'll certainly have it burned to memory by the time you finish them!
