I see a lot of these on Ebay and some go for well over $400. Anyone here collect these? This is an area I'm definately gonna stay away from, the prices just seem way too inflated.

I was obssesed with these for about six months last year.  I never bought one however, I was just addicted to the games via the Game & Watch Gallery series and simulators on PC.

Then my friend went to a garage sale at his lake last year and found a Zelda one for a dollar!  >:(

Stay far away. There's a bunch of G&W collector nuts out there willing to jack up the prices on them. The prices are usually too much, but it depends on what you're buying. Some go for less than $20, but others, the more rare ones, like giveaways and prize G&Ws go for $500+. The only reason I know this is because I've been keeping an eye out for the Famicom prize G&W. A seller on eBay wants his CIB Famicom G&W for over $1,000. Talk about inflated...sheeesh. They made 10,000 of them!

The prices for these were always such a rip-off, to me...

Ya I never understood it either, there are lot better rare nintendo items (Wild Gunman Set for example) that you can get for a lot less than a Game & Watch. I might consider going after them if the prices were to go waaaaaay down!

I think you've got it right the way you do it, vealchop. You pick something to focus on and you get it, like with the pulse line carts, the Family Trainers and the pre-Famicom stuff. The only goal I've set for myself is the holy grails, and that's gonna take a long time. Otherwise, I'm all over the place with my Famicom purchases. In other words, maybe it's best not to branch out too much.

I think another problem is that I don't find the Game & Watches all that fun...

JC

Most are not all that great because they're highly repetitive. But there are a few -- perhaps the later ones -- that allowed much more flexibility in the gameplay. But hell, I used to own the Mario factory one where all you did was pick up and hand off boxes the whole time, trying not to drop any. And I enjoyed that one too much.

They are not amazing at all now, but remember that there was a time when there was no gameboy!  I remember I was 7 or 8 and got the super mario brothers game and watch and thought it was the best ever!  It only held my attention for a couple of days at home, but (if I hadn't given it to a friend) I know I would have played it over and over again while on car trips and such...

I only buy game and watches at yard sales myself which is why I only have blackjack.  I found a pinball at a yard sale not too long ago for cheap too but it's top label was gone so it was too crappy for even me...

Ehh...still. This was in the days of arcades and back when they were easy to access. I do enjoy the Fire/Ambulance one though. :)

I have played "FIRE" on the "Game & Watch Gallery" for GameBoy.  I wish that I had the real thing though, that game is fun.
I am currently working on a homepage...  details to follow.

Another reason to stay away from Game & Watch collecting: HERE.

my god! $3,600!  :o

There has to be some crazy reason why people are bidding that much for a game & watch! INSANE!

I am a Game & Watch collector and I find it fun to collect these games. I have found a total of 25 Game & Watches now, from ebay and garage sales and trust me ther're pretty fun to play. When you play them, you just have that feeling inside that...I just can't describe. They just are not like the other lcd games out there...

PS; Don't worry, I buy them cheaply ( does 18$ for Donkey Kong Circus near mint sound cheap? If your not shure, check it on ebay NOW!)!

vealchop

$18? That can't be from ebay right?
