Sorry, just the way your post read made it seem like you said you were there. And youtube had Live coverage on it  :P

Also, press shots show purple and orange 3DS's, while both NA and JP nintendo sites only have red, black, and blue. I want the orange one!

None of those are final designs, so nobody knows exactly what colors we're gonna get (although pimp purple and orange are unlikely :D)

The 3ds does completely draw you in and that has both good and bad potential.

I'm hoping they do improve the design a little more. I'm not a big fan of:

the slider volume
the power where the start and select used to be (I just know I'm going to turn it off when reaching for start)
the start select and home buttons are cheap bumpy things rather than buttons
it seems thick and big
the top screen isn't as tall as the dsi screen.
Probably no way to move the dsi games I've bought.

It's a day one buy if:
3d works for DS games that do the top screen in 3d.

The power button is in a really weird spot. I doubt DS games will work in 3D.

How do you know the start and select are cheap and bumpy?

That could be done if said DS games used Z-buffer values for depth (or something similar) in their 3D environments. The 3DS could get a pretty nifty stereoscopic effect out of them with a bit of tweaking (that could be hardcoded in the 3DS' firmware). Kind of like colorizing monochrome GB games based on the particular game being played.

petik1

Just for the record, I don't know what that means, I just hope it has it! ;D

i think it looks sweet and if the list of rumored games holds any substance we have a lot to look forward to!  ;)

Hopefully Nintendo thought about the Game Boy games on the GBC when they were thinking of the 3DS.  That would be a really cool feature to have.  If they could do it for GB games on a GBC, then there's no reason they couldn't do it for the 3DS.
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

It would also be great if they added GB/GBC support on the 3DS.

Maybe a 3DS virtual console thing! That would be cool, playing super mario land in 3D

What exactly powers the 3d? How can it be 3d without glasses or something?
Sorry folks.

UglyJoe

I don't think anyone has said exactly which screen they're using, but it's probably using a parallax barrier to achieve the 3d effect.  This article explains it better than I can:

Oh. Good. When they first announced the 3DS I thought it would be like the magic eye or something. I was thinking, "Does nintendo really want us to cross our eyes for that long?"
Sorry folks.

petik1

I don't think Nintendo would ever do something like that. When it was first announced I said "Oh, cool." and forgot about it for a while. Now, region lock? ???
Also, tankexmortis brought up something interesting. The analog stick on the 3DS doesn't have those notches around it like earlier analog sticks on nintendo hardware.

tankexmortis

I hate those notches SO MUCH. Being able to play Starfox 64 and Ocarina of Time without them will be a dream come true. 3D? Whatever. I'm far more excited about the lack of notches.

Well, that and Kid Icarus. And Contra. And Paper Mario. And Saints Row. And Super Monkey Ball. And de Blob. And Assassin's Creed. And A Boy and His Blob. And Bomberman. If just half of those are launch titles, I am going to be poor for a very long time.
