Somebody please help a fellow gamer!

I have a Jap HVC-101 Famicom with the correct power adapter and the scart TV lead (same as my SNES).

My problem is that I get a really bad distorted picture and sound!

I've read about different HZ for a UK TV but I'm lost in translation!

I would appreciate any help...

The Famicom operates at 60 Hz. Your PAL tv operates at 50 Hz. I'm not sure what the work-around is.

If you have a somewhat modern TV it should have support for 60Hz as well. Even some old ones does. Modern TVs also has support for NTSC through the SCART or AV outlets (but usually not through RF). Do you know if your TV supports NTSC? Is the picture black and white?

I guess you have an AV-modded Famicom since you use AV cables?

NintendoKing

He said HVC-101 as in the official AV Famicom; not a av modified HVC-001.

P

Oh I see. I did a search on it and thought it was the HVC-001. I apparently didn't look hard enough.

Thanks for the info guys but all the TVs in the house are no more than 3yrs old and do not support multi hz or NTSC!

Its a real shame as in my eyes the Famicom I have is the best and favourite console I have amongst the others in my games room!

I've got an Argo clone console all brand new boxed just lying around the house but I refuse to play the thing! I dont wanna disrespect my HVC-101, I only purchased it for the Famicom gun and the 84in1 cartridge game!

If there really is a God please help one your your children...  Or even that small kid from the movie The Wizard!

3 years old only, are you sure? What kind of TV, LCD? In Sweden at least "Pal-60" and NTSC support is as far as I know standard on all new TVs due to popular demand, so I thought it was the same in whole Europe.

But all that happens when a TV doesn't support NTSC is that the picture gets black and white I think. And if it doesn't support 60Hz the picture will scroll from up to down in the wrong speed but you can still kind of make out the picture, all though not satisfactory. Is this the case for you?

I've got 3yr old LCDs around the house, all i get is a really bad distorted picture and sound, I'm guessing all my TVs are PAL UK and not NSTC compatible.

Any ideas anybody without robbing a bank?

Many Thanks!

Post a picture of what's been displayed on the screen when using your AV Famicom. :)

On my better LCD TV the picture its extremely pixelated (like lego blocks) and you really cant make anything out with a distorted audio of the game. On my other LCD its the same story but worse audio and visual.  I dont need to tune the channel as its a scart lead (same as SNES).

Any guidance would be most greatful...

Are you sure your SCART cable has composite video on it and not just RGB?

133MHz

It would still carry composite video because in RGB mode composite video is used as sync. By the way if you're using a PAL SNES SCART cable with an AV Famicom the picture will be a tad darker and washed out because the PAL SNES cable uses termination resistors on the SCART plug end while NTSC consoles don't. You need either a N64/Gamecube SCART lead or a modified PAL SNES one without the termination resistors.

Oh ok, yeah i am using my SNES UK lead.  I'm on ebay.co.uk looking for a N64, Gamecube lead but they all look like the same spec as my SNES, i'LL keep checking.

Thanks for the info guys!

Will a N64 PAL or Gamecube PAL lead be compatible with my Jap Famicom HVC-101?

I think thats all I can see on ebay.co.uk

Many Thanks!

P

You can also just use the AV lead that comes with SNES, N64 and Gamecube if you didn't get one with your AV Famicom. They should have the same Nintendo multi out plug and they come with a SCART adapter (in Europe only I guess) if you need that. This is just a cable so I don't think there is any differences on them.

So just to get this straight...

My SNES UK scart lead is not and will not working properly but a normal N64 Gamecube AV UK lead with red/yellow/white will work?
