Anyone remember my custom label that I designed and made for my SMB2j repro?

Now look what I find on ebay during my usual famicom searches....trying to be sold by none other than Retrohouse Thailand:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Mario-2-Lost-Level-W-Slip-Cover-JAPAN-Famicom-RARE-/190865763567?_trksid=p2047675.l2557...

The listing is over but I have no doubt it will be relisted.

So they used different fonts, but it's pretty obvious they blatantly stole my label. Not that I can do anything about it.

I'm sure everyone here knows better, but please please please do not waste $129.99 on this "RARE" copy.

::) That's what I get for selling my games on ebay with good quality photos...

I wouldn't get upset about it.  Repros are repros, the art is not yours but you're right they cloned the design for some reason.
He has other label designs and sells a lot of carts, so nt sure why he specifically copied the design.  He has been making and selling these for a ling time, I think I even bought mine from him a long time ago.  Sure they're overpriced but so is a lot of other stuff on eBay.  I personally hate the VGA 'scene' way more than what this guy is doing.  It may not be official, but it's still a rare cart to some degree.  It's not much diffent than an overpriced Starfox 2 repro in m eyes.

I'm sure he copied it because my mine sells on a regular basis and wants in on the action. Hard not to get upset when you spend alot of time trying to design something unique to differentiate your carts from others. I mulled over hours on little details like text placement, color, layout, and even flipping mario around so that his 2 fingers are next to the 2 in the title so that it doesnt look like he's just throwing up a peace sign. Maybe I put too much effort in my work (Jay-ray can vouch, i'm doing his monster party cart right now) so that when someone just right click-save-print's to call it a day, call it "rare" and put a stupid price on it, it stings just a little.  /rant

Now to see how long it takes him to take my No Constancy label too  ;D

But yea, VGA scene makes me sick as well.

1st fuck VGA
2nd fuck "repros"

Every time I step into the Nintendo side of things, I get sick, vomit in a can, and then get the hell out of there as fast as I can, which is funny, since I grew up on NES, and collected NES before collecting became trendy.  With the "repros", just so much modern garbage is being churned out by the bucket load, being advertised as rare, and people are buying it for insane prices.

Maybe it makes me a hypocrite to feel this way about those "repros", seeing as I am collecting multicarts from Bit Corp and the extensive line of bootleg games from Whirlwind Manu, their "L Series", but owning a cart catalogue from them printed in 1990 just helps show me that although not legit, there is some historical value (though little I guess) to those boots, while the modern boots (repros) are just modern crap with no historical value at all.  Fuck it all.

Would you be tempted to show some pics of the catalogue?  I'd be really interested to see it and the text included. :)

I'm resurrecting this topic to show off a few custom labels I've done recently.

Did this one yesterday. To separate it from the official release (not that I'd be able to fool anyone with a white cartridge) I did a new label with a Game and Watch inspired look.

Blade Buster. I know, I should've used the official logo, especially since the developer even had guidelines about it  :-\

Mostly though I make carts for games that don't even exist, haha. Not much use to people here but it's a fun hobby.

Waiting for a chance to take this picture took forever! Hope this isn't too much image spam.

You mean that isn't photoshop? AWESOME!

jascony

Thanks! No photoshop, it was just me laying on the ground for an hour with a zoom lens, hoping a bird would like my fake Famicom game.

I love them all and subscribe to your blog/tumblr.

I have lots in progress myself for a number of years, but I've not had the time to actually make them :(

Hope to share some of my own soon...

Could you please tell us how you go abouts to make these labels??
Like do you use an Inkjet printer or laser printer, what kind of paper do you use ect..
I recently bought a huge lot of FC games and they all pretty much have damaged labels so I would love to fix up my top picks so they dont look like they just came out of someones trash can.
I tried making a few labels my self using an inkjet printer and some standard printer paper but they all turned out like total crap and you could see the dotty look that an inkjet printer prints when printing images on paper.
I look at your labels and I dont seem to see those dots and it looks like they are real factory pressed so how do you do it??
Please share with us please please please with sugar on top!!
Thanks lots for any and all help.
