I just inherited a crate of Famicom, SF, and Japanese Game Boy games for the guy I bought my systems from.  I was just about to fire up the Game Boy when I saw this thread.  I was never a big fan of the US version, but I thought I would give this one a go.  I may end up parting with it, but thought I should try it first.

The great thing about gameboys is they were never region locked so you could play the japanese games in ones that were sold outside japan! I have them ranging from the old brick type to my sexy metallic red DS lite and a few months back i scored a GB advance for $10 with a game though the battery cover is missing. I'd love to get a few more japanese games for them all and i'm curious if you can trade pokemon from the japanese games to the english games.

GB systems are stripped down and including region protection would only add more to the size of the system / carts as well as use a little more battery power.

doesn't seem to work

QuoteTrades between Pokémon games in different languages are possible in this generation; however, a Japanese game cannot connect with a non-Japanese game. The latter will always result in corruption if attempted. This is due to the fact that the games cannot automatically translate the Pokémon data from Japanese to a different language or vice versa, since there is not enough room on either cartridge for all of the text, namely kana and the Latin alphabet http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Red_and_Blue_Versions

Glad I got that answered myself, with all the pokemon games I sell...

That Guy from Faxanadu

The JP versions of Konami GB Collection are awesome, because they run on Super Gameboy! I have vol.3.

Super Game Boy > Game Boy Color ;D

Do the EU/NA ones not run?  I think I have about 3 of those black cart JP Konami collections...

Yes the EU ones are black.
I have the Japan vol 2 and the games aren't too impressive on the Super Game Boy.  ???
I have vol 1. with Contra on it too, but can't find it at the moment.
The weird thing is that the games on JP and EU/NA are different. For example, the Japan vol. 2 was released in the EU as vol. 3.

But they are all worth getting, IMO. I only have the Japanese vol. 1 & 2 which I actually bought separately, because I couldn't find them in a game lot... and I wanted to play Contra, which I couldn't find either.  :D

As I don't play on them I might sell some of my multicarts.
I also have 3 Nintendo Power JP carts that I found you can reflash, so I'll get to play ZAS and Trip World that way I guess.

Are all the black carts EU versions?  I could've sworn I had a Japanese black cart or two.
Or am I getting mixed up and you simply mean the Konami multicarts are black in Europe?  Oddly, I got those from Japan in a lot

Is is possible to reflash the white carts just as any flash other card? That's interesting. I have two of those.

I mean that the Konami Collection carts are black in Europe, released in 2000.
The Japanese Konami Collections were released in 1997 and are not black, not the ones I've seen. They could still have Super Game Boy support though. On Vol. 2, the intro and the game Guttang Guttong is in nice vibrant colors, but the other games are standard dull colors.

Ah ok I get you.  I have a tendency to rad exciting news quickly :)

yes the white carts are reflashable with the right flashign equipment. You will of course, lose whatever data is on there.
I've not trried it myself, but I have a tatty one with some boring games on that I'm happy to erase, that are on other carts.
I'll probably make a new label for it and treat it as an official GB flashcart or something like that.

Heck I could stick a tatty label on and burn a proto or hack on there for uber bucks.  That's a joke of course.

I do have two Japanese Game Boy games at the moment and they are Super Mario Land and Donkey Kong.  I'll probably be getting more sometime in the future.   :pacman:

fredJ

You should get the classics ;)

L_E_T : Please let me know if you manage to flash your GB NP carts. I am reading about the SFC NP carts and doesn't seem anyone has flashed them. Correct me if I'm wrong....
