A little confused about spindle adjustment tutorials?

gotcha, it wasn't mine ;) But still... It's like adjusting ignition after replacing alternator belt...

Look, spindle is just a part to make disc spinning and pin is sort of clutch. did you noticed, that disc might slip, before pin set? And nothing bad happened. Even start point of spiral missed, nothing wrong again - BIOS will keep motor running until... right, until head mount will push the switch.

But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy

i always get flames when I get into this topics ...

still have to say, ericJ's tutorial is the only one that says the height of the hub is important.
it seems to me the hub is always located as far down as it goes, and I never thought much of it.

Also, I have started to doubt Xious statement that the screw with the red stuff on it must never be adjusted,
And I also doubt what he said about different revisions needing different calibration techniques.

Instead, it may be that it is important to ensure that the movement is even and smooth, to avoid all error 27 and similar. That's why some lubrication could be useful on the mechanical parts. Error 22 however is clearly just about the screws.

:fire: away. Really, I am not sure about it.

How do you repair your FDS consoles 80sFREAK?

Are you implying that you have never had to adjust the spindle hub? If so, are you just tuning the motor and the head position screw to get things working after a belt change?

I've repaired 2, and with the 2nd one I repaired adjusting the spindle hub was the only way I could get it to reliably read disks.

Yup, never touched it. What for? Or do you think during mass-production very sophisticated labour did such a lot of tunings?

And what for you have to touch the motor? Even more freaky, i do not use micrometer :)

http://www.famicomdisksystem.com/tutorials/fds-repair-mod/belt-replacement-adjustment/
This is the best guide I've seen thus far, and it got my FDS working to 100%

As for adjusting the spindle, mine came out of alignment when I changed the belt, it's something that happens.  But at the bottom of the guide there's a section on re-aligning it, which helped me make all of my games play 100%

So, to replace alternator belt in your car your mechanic disassemble whole engine?

how do you know? Just think about it - you disassembled whole unit(just wonder what for?), tossed around every single part and now saying "the problem is spindle".

I think i've got the point of "professionals", who writing such a "tutorials". The key phrase "if you have problems, feel free to contact me...", which you should read "lol, you followed this crap, now you are my client".

Good luck with that, i have my own short cut. Maybe someday i will release it. Keep lubricating and calibrating . :)

I'd like to clarify that the tutorials on my site were gathered from multiple sources and are not my own work but rather edited documents written by others. Da Bear had an easy way to get everything aligned somewhere on the forums here, but IIRC it only applies to certain drives. I know there has to be an easy way to do it, but all my drives work and I'm not disassembling them to experiment.   :)

Frank_fjs

I wish I knew of an easy way to do it!

The only thought I've had is working out a way to replace the belt without disassembling anything, like perhaps cutting the belt, fitting it as needed and somehow rejoining the belt.

So what's it going to take to get you to talk 80sFREAK? :D :D :D

HokusaiXL

I didn't follow the guide step by step, only used it for the issues I was having.  I can also rebuild a 20 valve Toyota 4AG in a weekend, if you're talking about engines.  But that's another story entirely.
