I'm not joking, I just want a normal controller not an iPad with buttons.

I just want to see what else will be available aside from Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros U on launch day. I'll probably pick one up after the "launch window".

The "launch window" runs until the end of March, and there's already a list of games (but no release dates): http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/09/looking-at-wii-us-launch-window-game-lineup/

I know that. But I'm not going to buy two games and then wait until March until the next game I want comes out. I want release dates before I make a decision on when I pick one up. I've had that problem with the 3DS...

I'm not sure if you're joking. If not, the pro controller is a redundant product made to trick the "harcore" gamers into getting the U.
(...)
The gamepad does literally the same thing as the pro controller plus more.

I think the Pro Controller will be a good alternative for player 2,3 & 4 as well. I´m definitly getting one when I buy the console. Still, not buying at launch day.

I wish the deluxe bundle would include something more useful though. One more thing; wouldn't it have been super easy to add backwards compatibility of GCN games onto the WiiU as well?  Just seems like a nuisance not to have it, or support for GCN equipment at all.

Remember that you're also getting Nintendo land, which, along with the above is a pretty good deal. Also, the Wii was compatible with the wii because it had all of it's components within the wii. Having a system that plays all three platforms would not only drive up the cost, but it would cut into their Virtual Console sales  ::)

That's like asking for a DS without a second screen... it's kinda the selling point.

You're comparing a Controller to a Portable Console. ???

Nintendo should've included the standard controller for gaming because not everyone prefers to be holding a GameGear/iPad just to play games while looking at the TV.

You always have the option of picking one up when you buy the console... they'd only bump the price higher if they included a second controller.

@FRG But that has nothing to do with anything. Minus the screen, its a big controller. Comfortable too, if journalists are to be believed. The iPad has some good weight to it, I hate how people are still comparing the two.

Oh wow, I totally missed that.  I don't see that as much of an incentive either, but I suppose that along with the other stuff would make up the extra $50.

It is the shop estimating a high price so people can pre order one but they will pay lower price when it is released.

There's is NO reason to pay 200 USD more for a console. Nintendo never did that to a country.

Actually, Nintendo does it all the time to Australia, as does Sony. Our RRP's are always considerably higher than the US and sometimes the UK. Our regular 3DS's still retail for $250 which is insane given the new model coming out. When the 3DS first came out here they were $450.

I can even remember purchasing my N64 close to release way back in the day and it was $500 here, whereas everywhere else it was $299 or something.

If the pro controller is so redundant, how do you play 2 players without it?

Also, since 90% of the games will make only annoying token use of the screen anyway (yes, I do so know this will happen)
wouldn't it make sense to use the pro controller and save your super expensive ipad thing from getting all scratched and busted up when it's not required?
GRRR!

I'm not sold.

I need actual games for the console. Not shovelware people are gonna play for 2 days then have it become a large paperweight. Out of all the games listed, the only one im really excited for is Batman, Bayonetta and sorta Ninja Gaiden. Rest of them im pretty apathetic toward and I really don't feel like im missing a whole lot.

I'm tired of Nintendo trying to rely on gimmicks to try and sell a console. I'm sure it'll have a bunch of casuals buy the console while it lasts, but that's as far as I see it going. I really like the "Pro" controller they're putting out, but im sorta sad it didn't come with the console.

I was swept up in the hype with the Wii and i'm not gonna get fooled this time.

It's crazy how overwhelmingly neutral people are about the Wii U.  It really surprises me I guess, since the Wii was incredibly hyped even for months after it was launched.  The Wii U on the other hand...just doesn't seem to be holding up.  Was motion gaming really that big of a deal in 2006?  I understand it was sort of a new technology at the time, but with the tablet controller for the Wii U, Nintendo is technically doing the same thing it did with the Wii.  Motion gaming was the "new thing" in 2006, and now in the past year or two, tablets have become incredibly popular.  They're just continuing to follow the mainstream, so I don't understand why people aren't nearly as pumped about the Wii U.

It's because of how the Wii flopped towards the end. People are MUCH more skeptical.

Frank_fjs

My stance is based upon my experience with the original Wii, which I used for about 2 months and it's been collecting dust ever since.

I'm not seeing anything particularly exciting in the Wii U, I think the novelty factor of the controller will wear off quick. I certainly won't be getting one upon release, but in a year or so when they half in price I might consider it.

P.s. Just got word about official pricing in Australia, seems first estimates were way off. It's $349 for the regular and $429 for the deluxe over here.
