Prototype, or not?

I recently bought the game Impossible Mission 2 for NES for 5$,. When I arrived home, I quickly opened it up, to see it had 2 eproms inside! So I was wondering if anybody knows if this game might be a proto or it was manufactured this way? And how do we insert pictures in a message? I would like to show the game but I don't know how to insert the pics on this... ???

On the "reply" page, you have to click the "Additional Options" feature underneath the text box. That'll give you the option of attaching photos. You can also use a photo hosting site like Photobucket and then insert the "[img]" code here.

If the game has the same label as other Impossible Mission 2s, then it's likely not a proto. Most, but not all, protos have a plain white label. Could also be a sample cart. We'd need pics of it all to know for sure.

Well, it has a white label made of almost the same as printer paper with black ink saying the title and from who it was made(SEI). No it's not like the normal Impossible Mission 2 cartridges at all. By the way, I tried to add my images, but I don't know how to make my image smaller so it doesn't exceed 128kp.

Resize the image in an editing program, or just e-mail the image to me and I'll post it.

keiffer01

sent you the pictures...now all you have to do is post them :) thanks!

Sounds like a proto or perhaps a review copy sent to a magazine.  Those types of labels were common on NES carts back in the day.

keiffer01

Well, if it is a proto, then I just got myself my first proto for 5$! Yipee! ;D :D

JC

Looks like a sample cart from the pics, like madman mentions. Heck of a deal. We'll see if someone can confirm it without a doubt. I don't have much of a clue about protos and samples. Nice screws, by the way.

Yeah. The screws, the label and the weight is what really made me buy the cartridge.

I'm hearing from at least one dude who knows a hell of a lot about this type of stuff that this is likely not a proto or sample. He says it's a variation of the IM2 title, even the board is the same as ones others have. That's not 100%, but it's close.

keiffer01

Yeah, this one dude also told me that, but he wasn't quite sure...Maybe were talking about the same guy ???

madman

Not a proto or sample, it's the SEI version w/the black and white label.  A somewhat rarer title, maybe worth $10 loose.

JC

Yeah. I heard about that same amount, maybe plus a couple dollars.

keiffer01

Well if it's not a protoype or a sample cart, why in the world would SEI use eproms to manufacture the game? ???

madman

EPROMs were commonly used in games with low production runs.
