I'm too lazy to snap pictures, but I just bought up a few CIB Genesis games. I'm most pleased with my new copy of Battletoads.

That, and I got a couple of junk SNES sports games for a buck apiece. Trying to build up some credit toward some repro work.

Yesterday I was at Retrospelsmässan in Gothenburg. Most of my finds are former rental games. Got a cool inner box for Color Dreams for free as well :)

EDIT: Retrospelsmässan is a retro gaming fair held once a year in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Seeing that Shinobi SMS box sure brings back memories. I played that game to death back in the day. Loved the arcade version. At the time I thought this was a fairly good and fun to play port.

Yeah, I just tried it and it plays pretty well. Unlike many Master System games, the music isn´t tormenting either. The game is a bit unfair as you repetedly jump into enemies you didn´t see, but definitluy an enjoyable title.

P

The arcade version is even more unforgiving. But then again most arcade games are. Yeah definitely a classic.

I'd recommend you guys give Alex Kidd in Shinobi World a play if you haven't already. In addition to Land of Illusion and Castle of Illusion, it's some of the best platforming on the Master System.

I just picked up a Sega 32X from a game store in town, but they didn't have any good games for it. I'll have to go over to my favorite store in the next few days and pick up a copy of Doom. (They seriously have dozens of them over there.)

While I was there, I spied a box of Genesis boxes in the back. I asked about them, and the guy told me that they were things they weren't supposed to keep. This is a corporate chain, and the orders from on high are to throw away all the Sega boxes because they take up too much space in the for-sale counters. Nooooo!

Luckily, this rebellious store has been stashing them under the counter. When I asked about them, they put it up to me and let me take anything I wanted out of it for free. Score! I got boxes for all three helicopter "Strike" games (Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, and Urban Strike) among others.

So, next I went over to the chain's other location in town. They had a pretty nice selection of Master System games, all cart-only of course. After calling one of the clerks over to get a better look at the titles in the counter, I asked if they had boxes for any of them. Sadly, this store is just throwing them all away! I hate how especially corporate game stores are doing this!

Well, I left without buying anything. I don't bother collecting loose SMS games anyhow, given how hideously plain those carts are. I'll definitely be back to that first store every couple of weeks or so now, to see if they get any other interesting Sega boxes that they've refused to trash.

Very cool, you should try to get Mortal Kombat II for 32X. The 32X port of that game seems pretty close to the arcade original. I hear you on the SMS cart designs, they're horrendous. It's like they went out of their way to make them as generic and horrendous as possible. Luckily out of my 50-or-so SMS games, only 3 of them are cart only. (Black Belt, R-Type and Double Dragon)

First post I`ve made on here in 6 months and naturally its to brag about another acquisition.

I got my very own Atari 2800 this week, complete with a few carts and a 1989 Sony Trinitron TV that I had to specifically buy to play it.  That is the Japanese version of the 2600, a very hard creature to come by.  Put some pics up here:

That was some interesting backstory on Atari. That's pretty funny, how they just pushed the 2600 into Japan just as the Famicom was being released. No wonder those things are rare!

Thanks Nerdy.  Yeah, I think they came out just a couple of months before the Famicom and that 1977 technology just couldn`t compete!

Yesterday, I went and saw an old acquaintance who was downsizing his collection. I came away $50 poorer, but now I've got an extra Sega Nomad, as well as a 32x missing its cord and five boxed 32x games.

Sweet. What were the 32X titles, were any of them MKII? I'll be going on a trip to Seattle next week, despite how badly I'll miss playing Famicom during it, I look forward to picking up some new Famicom games at the import store there.

That sounds exciting. I wish there were import stores of that kind around here. Are those places good on prices?

Nah, no Mortal Kombat. I've been thinking about that one, as I've heard good things about it. I also need to get a copy of Doom, as I hear it's a really solid port. I know a game store here in town has both, but they're a bit too expensive. I think Doom is $5 there, and MKII is about $15 (and they're both cart-only). Meh.

The titles are Cosmic Carnage, Kolibri, Primal Rage, Space Harrier, and Star Wars Arcade. The latter four are actually CIB. Cosmic Carnage is missing its manual, but they're all otherwise complete. I'm happy to pick up a classic like Space Harrier. Kolibri is the one that looks the most interesting. It appears to be a side-scrolling shmup where you play as a hummingbird.

Yeah I wish we had a store like that here too... but nope, no game stores whatsoever where I live. The prices there are mixed, a lot of people say they're overpriced, but I think it differs between products. Some of their stuff is about the same as online price, some of it is grossly overpriced (I remember they had cart-only Kage for 40 bucks, that is double what it should be), but some of it is actually a pretty good deal. And I can't find any Famicom stuff elsewhere besides online, so I figure I might as well jump at the chance while I'm there.

Good stuff! How does the 32X version of Primal Rage compare to the 3DO or Saturn versions? I like the Saturn version of that game a lot. Didn't even know Space Harrier was released on 32X, and I've never heard of Kolibri until now but it sounds pretty cool.
