I really wish it was not called pokemon though. Pocket Monsters is alot better, but they couldnt get the trademark for it aside from japan.

I'm probably acquiring Diamond at some point, I've been buying the 'blue' versions since middle school. I also get to work the morning shift at my store that day, and frankly, I'm pretty excited.

This may shock some people, but I'm one of the few guys who have never ever even touched a Pokemon game. :o
It's cool to see that it sells so amazingly well, though.

I also agree that "Pocket Monsters" would sound better than Pokemon.
Is it only me that I always think of the word "to poke", when I read it? ???
As in http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=poke (see definition #2) ::)

Like "Pocket Monsters" sounds much better. :P

I can't say I haven't 'touched' a Pokémon game before; I've tried out one of the GameBoy games (Red or Blue probably), played some Snap, & got a little bit into Stadium for the N64.

 ;D Haha, now that you say it...  :P indeed.

Why couldn't they get the Pocket Monsters name for the US

Monsters in my pocket merchandise was available around that time, and it sounds too similar apparently,

I'm playing Pocket Monsters right now too, but probably a version that not too many others have even played - Green. I boughta complete copy of  Pocket Monsters Green (includes box in near mint, manual in mint, game in mint, Gameboy Pocket ad, and a brand new Gameboy dust cover) on ebay for a grand total of $12 US including shipping.

Playing through Green isn't  really a new experience though. Its like playing through Pokémon Blue since US Blue is JP Green with JP Blue's graphics and unknown dungeon layout. Still, seeing the sprites (I don't think they are as ugly as people would claim) and all the text is a perfect opprotunity to practice reading Japanese.

I just kinda wish they had not named the Pokemon in Katakana *which I can't read nearly as effecently as Hiragana* but maybe thats a blessing as it helps teach me the generally avoided katakana.

Seeing as how this is a community of English speaking people playing Japanese games, I can't be the only one here who knows a tad bit of the lanuage. Therefore, mind if I ask what other games are recommened for reading? I can't read kanji yet so those games need not apply.

every single pokemon game features hiragana / katakana only. those are your best bet. it's important to note that pre-32bit era most games were written in full kana, without kanji, so you can track down some games to try.

as for green, I have never played that one,  I was wondering if you could post pics of the sprites so I could see the difference, I cant find any comparisons on wikipedia.  just a few screens, you don't have to do the whole game or anything.

I still am amazed at how strong the Pokemon Game fan base in the States is.  Diamond/Pearl sold over 1 million copies in the first five days of release!

The last time I played a Pokemon game was silver/gold versions.  After that, I couldn't find any friends that still played it.  I still have red/blue versions in my closet somewhere.....  How they bring back memories!  Good times, good times!  ^.^;

I also own Pokemon Green, and I must say that the pokemon sprites look a lot better on green than the red and blue versions! Except maybe for Charizard...he looks freakin' retarded in green! :D
