Studio Ghibli makes good stuff.

On wednesday I had a snow day, so I spent it watching all thirteen episodes of Serial Experiments Lain. It was worth it.

I've watched Lain about three times since it came out.........................and I don't seem to understandddddddddddddddddddddd  ::)

Hmmmm what's this?

This is the second time this has happened.  In Guyver they all sit round "to play some video" and it's a full Fami-FDS set up and everything!
The above is Deburuman by the way.

I used to like it, now I hate it...
Some years ago I grown tired of seeing the japanese releasing the SAME stuff (mostly crap, BTW) over and over again (come on, you know it's true, they ran out of fresh ideas and just keep copying themselves). The whole anime industry is just a big disappointment to me.

Now, the only "massive" japanese animations I care about are Studio Ghibli's movies (I even have the Mononoke Hime laserdiscs), and some from a couple of others directors (I love Satoshi Kon's movies).

I'm eager for the upcoming bluray releases of Ghibli's films. At least I managed to get Cagliostro and Howl on HD some years ago (hehe  ;D)

Grab Iblard Jikan if you haven't already, it's HD-designed and superbly beauiful.

I know what you mean though.  Unfortunately it's a cultural thing, the Japanese have a tendency to withdraw into any popular element and dwell on it.  It's not the same as milking an idea but I have to agree that anime now is not what it was 20 years ago.  To me it's lost all the zest and creativity it had - this is really clear in remakes like the Bubblegum Crisis remake for example.

Miyazaki is different because he is a story teller not a gimmick seller, but I'm fed up of seeing schoolgirls with green hair and a sword telling us all about the boy they like that won't notice them or some shit like that.

I love Initial D! If you guys haven't seen that, I highly recommend it. If you do decide to try it out then go with the original Japanese collection (with Engrish subtitles) because the Americanized versions really suck!

FamicomFreak

I hate how adult swim took naruto out and one piece out, there is also a crappy Sunday line up and no amine during the week... Totally depressing if you ask me.

Yeah, One Piece is really... weird, but funny.

The theme song is catchy. :D  I should watch it sometime.

I like how Jin's outfit makes a cameo in my second favorite Bebop ep.

FamicomRetroGamer

I love anime, thank god it exists, I hate the crappy cartoons from foreign countries, they're watchable.

This is what I watch or completed:

- 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother (Marco)
- 80 Days Around the World With Willy Fog
- Afro Samurai
- Banner Tail - The Story Of Gray Squirrel
- Capeta
- Cowboy Bebop
- Desert Punk
- Digimon Adventure
- Dogtanian and The Three Muskehounds
- Dragon Ball
- Dragon Ball GT
- Dragon Ball Z
- Hungry Heart Wild Strikers
- Kino no Tabi - The Beautiful World
- Koi Kaze
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- One Piece
- Soul Eater
- Shigurui
- The Three Musketeers
- Tom Sawyer

I'm a Dragon Ball fan, but very disappointed with Dragon Ball Kai, it wasn't what I expected to see on TV. Hope in a few several years do a proper transfer from Dragon Ball Z - SD quality to HD quality.

And if anyone thinks that I didn't saw the Japanese Blu-Ray quality of the DBK's is wrong, I did, and they.. Not to my expectations.

Damn it, quite a lot of bad transfers that Blu-Ray has, FUNimation did Claymore on Blu-Ray and that looks just like DVD quality, although it's cheaper and in the new format but it kills a person who wants proper quality.
