I think Asian boxes are a different shape, they're not as narrow.  European boxes are the same shape and size as their NA counterparts, as a rule.
I'm sure there are exceptions.

European: There are some small boxes (Nintendo games mostly in EEC release (about 40 games)) but most of the games released here are in boxes with the polystyrene.

I don't know for Asian but I guess they are mostly small boxes.

All the Hong Kong versions I've come across have been the smaller boxes.  I just don't have measurements.

Most asian boxes are smaller than U.S. boxes

The Canadian (and U.S) boxes are
Height: 17,7 cm
Width: 12,6 cm
Depth: 2,3 cm

They are taller than most of the asian boxes I have seen, but same width (although I have seen at least 1 full sized asian box, the SMB that comes with the asian NES)
The european boxes are mostly full sized except for the black box games, which have a small box that I believe is the same size as the asian box you have.
GRRR!
