A video I just made.

I'm going to be making an update, so if anyone has any suggestions, post them!

Finally got around to it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2R5rrWpUNE

Still not finished though! I'll take suggestions on what I can cut out / add

The final version! :o And it's public! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJi2Q5NgOHw

some of the the comparisons were spot on. Great work man.

Others were a bit of a stretch and made me cringe a little especially the first comparison which is a progression that has been used in so many rock/traditoinal songs it don't even feel i need to post examples. Its practically public domain. Hip Tanaka loved that downward scale progression and it shows from the opening of Kid Icarus to the Credits of Metroid.

i understand it says "similarities" but be prepared to hear more flack about it.

you should try investigating more new music that rips off NES composers. i laughed so hard at the Metroid and Foo Fighters comparison.

great vid! in all fairness if someone tries to make another then he should have a vast knowledge on rock/metal and NES game music, not something easy!
I really liked the Kirby->Archenemy part  :)

I'm not insinuating that any of these were ripped off. In fact, I don't think any of the NES ones were ripped off.

Was this one of them? I swear, they sounded identical in my head!

Edit: OMG! I can't believe I screwed that up! The song I was thinking of was Fight the Good Fight by Triumph. I'll make an update.

In the meantime, let me know if you have anything to add!

Let Love Open the Door vs Final Fantasy Prelude was pretty awesome.  As was the ending ;D

This was pretty enjoyable. Some of them were kinda a stretch, but others I hadn't noticed before.

You compared Megaman 1's Elecman theme to Journey's Faithfully. Another, even better comparison is the Elecman song is REM's All the Right Friends. The two are virtually identical and needs to be mentioned in any comparison video of NES chiptune music to actual band music.

Was not! ;D Nobuo Uematsu just felt a disturbance in the force ...

Fantastic video Master Jedi! Just love all those Rockman references!

son_ov_hades

I loved this! As a huge music nerd(specifically metal and prog rock) I appreciated this on so many levels haha.

Interesting that you say that. Why is it a better comparison?

satoshi_matrix

Well, it's not just a few riffs that the two songs have in common. R.E.M's All the Right Friends and Elecman's theme are virtually identical for nearly the entire melody. Just listen to them and compare.

I went by Journey due to the chords matching perfectly (if sped up).

I also wanted to avoid lyrics in general (the music with lyrics were all at the end, if you noticed).

This is still not final. In my efforts to keep it as short as possible, it still turned out nearly 10 freaking minutes long! :o So now I'm cutting stuff.

I'm thinking of taking out both Edgar Winter Group entries & Depeche Mode. I think those are the weakest comparisons. I'm redoing Lady Madonna / Dr. Mario.

Any suggestions?

That was a very cool video.  There's two you should consider listening to though:

I heard this one in a Mexican restaurant a few years ago when I was with my cousin.  As soon as it came on, we both looked at each other and went:  No shit dude!!.  Is it as obvious to you guys, or was it just us?

This one always caught my ear too, although I could never place exactly what game it was from:

I'm not sure if you count unlicensed games, but the credits theme in Fighting Hero sounds just like Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers. ;) Also, I forget if it's pointed out here but I think Flash Man's stage in Megaman II sounds like My Michelle by Guns 'n' Roses.

Is that rock? ??? Though the music has a peculiar vibe to it, I can't find any familiarity in it. What does it sound similar to?

If it's a creditable unlicensed game, not a blatant ripoff of Street Fighter bordering 'pirate original' than unlicensed. By the way, the cast theme plays the A Time for Us. ;D

That makes three! Flash Man also apparently sounds like Metallica - Search & Destroy. :-\
