Hi there! First off, my name is Jory! I haven't posted much but I've already introduced myself to a few people around here. Love the forum!

Recently I bought a Famicom-style (NOAC) clone, and though I love its appearance and performance it has had a problem: after a few days of play, the B button on the Player 1 controller stopped working! It's strange... I'm able to get it working for about a minute at a time if I open up the controller and fiddle with the wires a bit, but it almost immediately stops working again. I think the PCB may just be bad and needs to be replaced.

Here's some photos of the console and controller/PCB:

It's a pretty generic controller, with a small, 5-pin connector that plugs into the inside of the console (kind of like a Molex connector.) Thankfully, I was able to swap out the PCBs of the two controllers, so it's now player 2 that doesn't work and I can play one-player games for now.

All that said, I wonder if anyone has any controllers like this one they'd be willing to sell me? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide  ;D

Hi!

The famiclones use the same gamepads as official famicom and NES. You can get an NES gamepad or a famicom gamepad and use its board.

It sounds like some wire is bad or has a bad connection. I would do a continuity check with a multimeter on all the wires.

Hello and thanks for your replies!

P: I don't have a multimeter, but I think it might be the wiring too. Why else would the controller work occasionally, under a specific set of conditions? I will try to resolder the connection. Hopefully that will work! Thanks for the advice.

aha2940: Hey, that's a really interesting thought. I hadn't considered that a real NES/fami controller board would work. That's definitely the next step for me if I can't get this board working. Thanks a lot for the tip!

Wish me luck  ;)

You're welcome. I have a famiclone and I made a couple of adapters for using NES gamepads with it. Nothing wrong with the original pads (they are exactly like original famicom pads, only with turbo buttons) but I like having the longer cords on the NES pads. If you need the pinout, let me know.

Hey gang, I resoldered the main wires on the controller and after a good deal of testing I think it's fully working! Thank you both for inspiring me to fix it myself.  8)
