Hi guys I've been lurking here for a while. I got an erge for some Famicom love last year when I picked up a Twin Famicom, unfortunately I had to sell it for emergency funds. I picked up a classic Famicom a few weeks ago and loving it.

Before I sold my Twin I made a few replays. I hope to do a few more when I get time.

Well hello Mr. Mosquito. We meet again.

The Internet is a tiny place.

Heya Ghegs, I figured you'd be on here somewhere :) I'm glad to have the Fammy back now, I've got a nice selection of games that I'm looking forward to eventually get around to playing. I think I'm gonna go for the RGB mod next month, Composite simply won't do..

Do you play all your Famicom games on stick, or just the "arcade-style" ones?

Heya, yeah pretty much. I'm currently flipping between RAF world and Solbrain and I find I have more precision with a stick than with a pad, and it's easier on my thumbs :/ I use a pad for more relaxing games where tight control isn't so important, A friend and I are currently working our way through Bable with a pad, it's also more convenient to pass between us after every level done/life lost.

*I actually don't have that Capcom Power Stick anymore, it feels a bit cheap and nasty. I use a pad-hacked Sanwa modded Dreamcadt stick instead now.

Nightstar699

Oh wow, you've been playing a couple of the console's best, Solbrain is my favorite game of all time. Both very doable and fun when it comes to 1-life clears, by the way, so I'd like to see if you ever have videos of those games up.

I never even thought of playing platformers with a stick before. I play Street Fighter competitively so I am decent on stick, but only if it's of the absolute utmost quality. I'd rather use practically any pad than a janky stick, so quality is a must.

Yeah Solbrain is pretty damn nice isn't it. I love the feel and the control mechanics and the music is pretty awesome as well. I'm ashamed to admit I only recently discovered it after watching a AGDQ race.

I have been primarily playing arcade games for years so using a stick has always been the default controls for me. Sticks were being used for platform games years before fighting games came out, makes sense really :) A also play competitive SF, ST specifically, so I understand the struggles using a shoddy stick/buttons. This is the main reason I pad-hacked my Sanwa DC stick, all genuine arcade controls, I have a Japanese arcace cab with the exact same controls so it's all consistent. If my only choice was a Nes advantage then I'd be using the pad :) most of the Nes/Famicom sticks are pretty poor imo, so making my own was the only option really. That grey metal Ascii one sure looks nice, though.

I can't think of any pad game that can't be played with an arcade stick (not counting modern games that requires analogue sticks and such). RPGs, adventure games and other menu driven games might not benefit from the stick though, and I'm personally faster with a pad than with a stick in such games.

Yeah that metal Ascii stick is said to use a genuine arcade stick. I'm fine with the CPS-Fighter though, it came with a real Sanwa JLW stick and micro-switches for the buttons (the actual buttons are of course not arcade parts though).
