I did some searching on the forums to try and see if anyone else put together a list like this, but it doesn't look like it. If someone has, please let me know and this thread can be deleted. I looked in the past year of posts and through Google site search and nothing came up.

I've recently got horribly hooked on FDS games (having exhausted what I wanted on Famicom... sellers like J4U made for a slippery slope) and noticed that while most retail FDS games come in the square hard plastic cases, there is a small contingent of titles that came in different packaging. Since I am insane I am trying to gather all of those packages, I figure if a list like this didn't exist, now would be a good time to make it.

This list includes every title I have been able to determine came in packaging outside the norm. No Disk Writer titles either for obvious reasons. If the game came with extras, I tried to include that as well. I did GIS, eBay and Yahoo Japan Auctions searches to get an idea of what everything came with if I didn't have it. Some titles were definitely more obscure than others (I didn't find out what exactly was in Santa Claus no Takarabako until I opened a new copy I got in).

The biggest deviation in packaging were the Square/DOG releases and of course, not every title by DOG got a larger box (I know Kailin no Tsurugi didn't get a larger box). The most valueable and/or expensive one of these is Kiki Kaikai in that blister, followed by Doremikko. I'd be curious to see if I missed one of the Taito pencil case games. Making only two (Bubble Bobble and Replicart) seems odd.

Thanks for making this list! I'm also a sucker for both FDS stuff and games that comes with extra stuff! ;D
I had no idea Santa no Takarabako came with cards used together with the software.

Galaxy Odyssey, Keita Princess and Seiken Psycho Calibur (not Psycho Killer haha) are called the Wave Jack series and all have the same kind of things (hard box, cassette tape, stickers and a thick novella-like manual). I'd group them together in the list.

Disk Writer games often came with a fold-out manual, but not always so they may be a bit hard to distinguish from retail releases since there are some many variants of them.

I can swear I've seen two versions of Apple Town Monogatari, both having unique packaging. The one you listed and a limited edition or something like that with a bigger box. Googling for it now only turns up one version though so I'm not 100% sure. But it might be something to lookout for.

Thanks for the feedback, I added your info and did a second list chopped up by publisher/pack type. I haven't looked much for any DOG game so I can't comment on the Appletown boxes. If I see what you saw, I'll add more info.

TRM? Hey man, what's up! Apologies if I'm wrong and you're not him. I've been around but nowhere public for the past, uh, decade or so. NA, reddit and the prospect of Facebook groups (yay for never joining FB) kept me in my hidey hole so I missed you switching handles.

Still good info. Glad to see someone with determination to investigate a variant so minor and insignificant lol. I added the link to the first post. Thanks for linking it!
