Has anyone seen this before? I had famicom duck hunt in my collection for a while, never got out of the box.
Recently I sold it and the guy who purchased it sent me a pictures with WTF...
Is this like a fake cart for display purposes?

I've got one of those, it's not a cartridge but a box shaped like a Famicom cartridge. I bought mine long ago for what it was and much cheaper than the game costs. They are pretty neat looking but I'm not sure what they are good for.

I would guess they're for storing business cards.

P

Maybe if it's just for storing cards. They are of the same size as real Famicom cartridges, so I imagine it would be a bit bulky to keep in a pocket.

But can you imagine the respect it would command if you arrive to a high-stakes business meeting, approach the other company's representative, and pull out a Duck Hunt cartridge from your jacket pocket, from which you then extract your immaculately designed meishi and offer it to them?

That's a CEO-level power move right there.

Hahah yeah, I can imagine that...

I thought it could be more like display, maybe promotion merchandise cart? Would be nice to know. It looks exactly like a real cart, apart from the button side ofcourse.

I managed to find these two short articles, showing similar things for other early FC games exist:

https://infendo.com/famicom-card-holders-for-nerdy-businessmen/

https://www.destructoid.com/live-from-japan-i-mean-business-with-my-famicom-cart-business-card-holder/

Could be these things were never released with a box, but yours could be a genuine Duck Hunt box to which someone switched a fake cart years ago.

Also, real Duck Hunt cartridges don't seem to have that black text saying "(c) 1984 Nintendo BP China" in the back (near the thumb in the picture). Or at least none of the ones I managed to find on eBay that show the cart's back have it.

So they are for business cards indeed.

I remember clearly that they were sold as coming in a box when I bought one (I think I got Wrecking Crew), and mine did as well. Without doing any serious comparisons I think the outer paper box and the inner plastic box both looks like and could easily be mixed up with real ones. I can tell it apart easily because my real Wrecking Crew box doesn't look as new as the card case one does.

I have a Super Mario Brothers one that came with little eraser figures (aka "Keshi") inside
