Should I get the Famicom versions of NES games I already have?

It generally seems like a waste of money to me.

The exceptions, I think, would be if you are running out of Famicom-exclusive games to collect; or if you can read Japanese and want to play the Japanese versions of NES RPGs to see how badly the translation/censorship turned out.

Or if you are like me and cant read Japanese at all but still manage to play through RPG's in Japanese by remembering all the menus and what every item does.

for the ones that have cool changes, yes. Contra's cool for the cutscenes. Castlevania III's music rocks.

I like the US's bionic commando better, but it's much more interesting to fight the nazi's. (actually, I want to mix the two some day--that would rock!).

There are also many games that I'd say why bother? Unless you know jap, the nes version of any rpg is going to do you a lot better.

true. i found collecting famicom/nes games is alot cheaper then some other hobbies.

Yeah it's always nice to have and compare each the US and Japanese counterparts. Some US counterparts look cheap in the end are cheap so why not!

Some games are pretty different in Japan and deserve
being played.

Try playing The Krion Conquest after a little Magical Doropie session!

My biggest point is the size of the carts.
NES are king-size, Famicom is pocket.
My hideout is not the biggest in town, so the size of my
Nintendo carts counts a lot! There is no room for big
things here!

Well, I decided to go through with it, and so far I have the following Famicom games I already own on the NES:

*Donkey Kong Jr.
*Excitebike
*Gradius
*Rockman 4
*Rockman 5
*Super Mario Bros. 3

I was right, this is fun. I've never been this crazy about a system since I got into the Atari 7800. I'm still waiting for my AV Fami from satoshi_matrix to arrive, which kind of started this whole thing to begin with.

I think you should do it.
A shelf of nes game carts is boring. All grey. (gray?)
Famicom carts, however, are different shapes, sizes and colors, so a shelf full of those would look really cool.

There are a few titles that are very good to have on Famicom.
I personally highly recommend getting:
Super Mario Brothers 3
Castlevania 3 (Akumajo Densetsu)

Some other titles are nicer to have just because they take up less space on your shelve and have no differences otherwise. But games with stories are just too hard to follow unless you know Japanese, or are willing to try learning with video games (which is a very hard way of trying to learn).
