Hello. As some of you may have observed, unless you aren't creepy and stalker-ish, I am hoping to purchase an original Famicom with a copy of Joy Mech Fight. I have found that, to have it shipped to my home, it would cost around $80.

However, my mother and father do not approve of said purchase, the Famicom being a "dead system" and that everything can be very easily emulated. Also because $80 is a hefty chunk of monies.

So, since you guys seem to know a lot about the system - What reasons are there to buy a Famicom? Of course, besides the obvious nostalgia factor. Any help is much, much appreciated. Thanks!  ;D

BUY IT NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY! JOY MECH FIGHT IS A GEM! Is the famicom complete in box? If not, try looking around some more. I got mine complete in box for around $81 US(Thanks Featherpluckn) If you can't find a better deal, go ahead and buy it. Er... For reasons, uhh.... the games are fun? Nostalgia factor for your parents?

The Famicom is fun and makes a great discussion piece. ;)

The Famicom is vastly different from the toaster-style NES that was released in the west; Upon seeing such an unusual console, lots of discussion can be drawn up on the pros/cons etc of the Famicom vs the NES.

A dead system?

The Beatles are a "dead band", but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy their music.

Very, very true.

There are many reasons to buy a Famicom! I always wanted one ever since I was young and now that I can buy it on my own I can enjoy all these great titles from the past! It's also a lot of fun when you have friends over and show them your awesome Famicom collection and they pick up a cart and say "oh man I used to play this on a Famiclone years ago" It's just a great feeling!

I would think that one of the great things about a so-called 'dead system' is that you can find a lot of games for cheap. The $80 you pay for the system will be made up by how many games you can get for an additional $80. You can get a lot of entertainment for not very much $. If your 'rents don't want to pay for it, you can always save up to buy it for yourself.  :P

Also pirate carts have lots of games in them so you can get them for cheap and have lots of games in one cart!

I had the same problem Jearb...

I wanted a Famicom...but my parents didn't approve because "I would just be buying another system to spend more money on"

It totally depends on this, are you buying it with your money...or are your parents buying it for you?  If it's the first option, then tell them it's your hard-earned money!

I got an original CIB Famicom w/ A/V Mod for $128 (Which means nostalgia AND the crisp-est picture and sound a Famicom can possibly offer!)

I got Joy Mech Fight CIB for $35 + $5 Shipping!! :D
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

It's my money...So I don't know. I'll hafta figure it out.

Honestly speaking, I've got my Famicom but I don't play it terribly often. My NES gets much more use than my Famicom.
