Anyone ever notice how controllers buttons don't run in alphabetical order?  I mean really, we had simplistic controllers with A & B.  Then other consoles came along and had letters A, B, C, X, Y & Z...  Why not just use D, E & F instead of XYZ?  I can understand the L & R buttons, but it just makes me wonder why it's always like this now.  Controllers today make even less sense, because they seem to forget Z, and just put A, B, X & Y (360 controller)...  Completely awkward I find.
I know it doesn't matter, but what's your take on this?  Why not just order them properly in the first place?
Consoles I own (by Generation):

1st: N/A 2nd: Colecovision 3rd: Game Boy Pocket 4th: Game Boy Color, SNES 5th: N64, N64DD, PS1 Sega Saturn  6th: Xbox, 2 Gamecubes, Dreamcast, PSP, DS 7th: Wii, Xbox 360, Ps3

The way I see it, its to group similar buttons, while leaving room for expansion.
Hey people, TRG still exists. Come join the meh-ness.

What about Sony? They switched to shapes?

It like they were worried that really dumb people where having trouble with learning the alphabet so they were like, "We better just keep it simple and use shapes."

I do think they did do a good job picking out which shapes go where. I mean, didn't the top button feel like it should be a triangle? Maybe it's just me.
