Hey, I am getting interested in a sega nomad and wondering if it can play japanese mega drive games. Thanks in advance!

Can I ask where you bought it from? And how much?

About your question, Wiki, can answer you:
QuoteThe Nomad is one of the few Sega systems that can play most games regardless of region without an adapter.

I have tried PAL games on Nomad and they didnt work (But maybe some do?). Only 1 of my Japanese Mega Drive games played on it and the other 2 didnt.

I saw that, I just didnt know if a japanese mega drive game would fit. On model 1 and I think model 2 genesis's (or is it genesi?) you have to cut off little tabs on the input, and I'm not a fan of modifying. :/

When did those games come out? I know later games had regional lockout, such as sonic 3 or 6-pak. Also, will virtua racing work? It uses the sega virtua processor and I haven't found any information on it's compatibility.

The wiki info is wrong.
On my U.S. Nomad, JP/EU cartridges will not fit, you have to trim off some plastic, even then there are some games that check the region of the console and will refuse to boot, you can add a switches to make the unit US/JP/EU.

MarioMania

Just get a Game Genie & play JPN Games like that, Some Games requier a Code to by pass the lock out

I've seen battery and screen mods for it that can net 10 hour battery life if memory serves.

I figured that Jp carts wouldn't fit, but what about a JP system to US carts? I know newer games have lock out, is there a list anywher I can find with out the lockout?

The Nomad just like all other versions of Sega's console is region locked, but like the other versions you can install a region switch on it. Alternatively,  there are gamegenie codes that circumvent the region locking in many of the best games released in other lands.

European carts are the exact same shape and size as Genesis carts. You are right about the region lock though, so unless you mod the Nomad with region switches, it won't be compatible with every MD game out there.
