I really liked Simon's Quest, although given the Engrish, it's nearly unbeatable without a walkthrough.

From what I've read, the Engrish is pretty much a dead-on translation of the Japanese.  It wasn't the translators that made it confusing, it was the developers ;D

I actually hated the SNES instalment because I found the visuals dull and unvarying and the soundtrack terribly uneven in quality (great music for the first few stages, horrible and repetitive for the rest).

I know what you mean.  It's not bad, but it really suffers from early-SNES-game-itis.

Some people are huge fans of SCV4, however, so I guess I have to respect the eight-direction whip and rotating room.
And my favourites by far are ROB and SOTN. 1 and 3 were also superb.

Yeah you got that right about Castlevania 2 but back then we didn't had the internet we had a little monthly magazine called Nintendo Power to answer our prayers yay....man think about it, now we have the internet but back then it was totally different. There was also that really expensive hotline...har!

It's a pretty good series :)

The problem with Castlevania 2 is that the townsfolk downright LIE in both the English AND Japanese version. Indeed the developers were assholes.

I downloaded SOTN on XBLA last night and played it for the first time.  I love it!  I already liked the Castlevania series, but the slightly better graphics and more in-depth gameplay help too. :)
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

. Stay away from the 3D ones.

The later Playstation 3D games were next to garbage IMO, but the N64 games are excellent--a highlight of the series for me (might as well get the expanded version if you get any)...

Otherwise, there aren't any Castlevania games I absolutely hate--it's a fantastic series.
