Nintendo Museum!!!!!!

Please tell me some of you guys in Japan made it out to this event.

The only bad part about all this is with this kind of exposure you can expect pre-famicom prices to effing skyrocket. They have some amazing items behind glass though.

the only merch is the t-shirt, im pretty sure. they have displays with all the toys, game and watches, and all the consoles nintendo has made. pretty sweet. they even have a VB

I was hoping there would be some kind of book to go along with the show kind of like the book that went with the show at the photography museum there a few years ago. Ah well...

I wonder if that'll spark interest in more people to start collecting that kinda stuff.  I know a bunch of you guys are into it.

Yeah and from the looks of the exhibit I haven't even made a dent toward a complete collection! haha!

My guess is yes, the prices of these pre-famicom items are going to go up, especially now in Japan where this exhibit was. If you've been shopping on YHJ for a while, you'll notice the abundance of bidders and the rising start prices of this stuff. I'm glad I got in a little early and grabbed some stuff I really wanted. Coming across a CIB Chiritory now though is but a pipe-dream!

no, it probably wont go up, the exhibit isnt open very long, and its only in japan. people in japan already know nintendo made toys, this isnt new news.

I think kite's right about Japan. Not only did they already know about most of this stuff, but they also have easier access to it. So, just like Famicom stuff is cheaper on YHJ, I imagine pre-Famicom would be similar. Now, in the US, I could see people pushing the prices up -- that's been the trend for Nintendo stuff (especially NES) in recent months.

ya, I dont think it has merit though, its just these sleezeball collectors who overpay for stuff; like the disk card case for 30 bucks that ended today, kris couldnt sell one for 4.99 back in november - december.

So I did make it to the museum and I have pix to show you all!!  It was one hell of a trip getting there though, 2 1/2 hours of standing on the local train, half an hour packed like a sardine...maaannnn, i mean how many old people go to Kyoto on a Monday! apparently more than can fit in one train!!  But after Kyoto the trip was smooth sailing, but I still couldn't sit!  But so ok, I know you don't want to hear about that. Soooo....the exhibit, the pre-Famicom section was definitely the highlight and also what seemed like the most neglected!  Most people seemed more interested in checking out the Game Cube and playing DS!  But there were some other people looking in awe, and a guy was even taking some sort of notes on everything.  Maybe writing down all the stuff he wants to buy to jack the prices up more! I must say though, it was kinda strange to see all these things that I've sold and seen for sale behind glass in a museum setting.  I knew they had a lot of the items they had since I had seen pictures of the exhibit prior to going so they didn't suprise me so much, but I was amazed at there selection of handbills they had for all those toys.  There were some really great ones, that of course I have pictures of, and that I dug since I've been into handbills lately.  The Famicom and FDS part of the exhibit was severely lacking, but I guess it was there to show a general what Nintendo has made and not to go off the deep end with rare items and such, though that would have been nice.  A much better museum for that stuff is Super Potato a few train stops away.  The video game room was great though with the Mario walls which was  the best part along with the concept drawings for Super Mario Brothers.  Also, I wish they had English captions for the items and the history but I guess you can't ask for too much.  And a book would have been nice too, but this wasn't that big, just a weekend thing.  They were selling some retro goodies but nothing I found interesting, Super Mario World Barrel of Monkeys anyone? I did pick up some of the shirts from www.the-king-of-games.com that they were selling there.  Overall, it was a great exhibit and I was thinking about you all while I was there.  it would have been an amazing field trip for us all to go on together!  So enough talking, the pictures are much better than my words....http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u249/featherplucknfilms/
There's also some I took of a few game shops in Osaka, including Super Potato's glass case...ooooohhh...ahhhhh  Too bad having to stand for 3 hours before even getting there wore me out enough to not want to do too much exploring.

Shit, man. All those pics are awesome. I can't believe how Japan has gaming stores overflowing with retro stuff like that. Can't find those kind of store here, maybe Pink Godzilla. That museum is pretty neat, too. You're right that it sucks it didn't have some rare Famicom stuff in there, but those Mario concept prints are really cool. And to see all that stuff in such pristine condition.
