Sounds OK. I should get a ppu before I go waste the money on some big weird item I'll likely regret later. True I doubt I need av famicom. All it'd do is trade the fds drive for nes controller ports. And the av famicom's lack of eject button would get annoying, if my nes top loader is any indication what to expect there.

I did order an nes to famicom adapter. Does powerpak need an internal mod too (I don't own one)? Getting a modder to do as much as they're able at once will save on postage. Disk drive repair is also on the agenda I'm sure with its noise.

av famicom = clean looking video quality after being rgb modded.  All other nes/famicom models (not sure about the twin famicom) = video distortion.  That's why I've been doing this mod on av famicoms.

I will happily do this mod to a twin famicom or any system you prefer but if you get video distortion don't say I didn't warn you.

Yes to get the powerpak to work on the rgb av famicom (and probably any other rgb modded system) I had to swap out one chip on the console to make it work but the powerpak works perfectly once you do that swap.  You don't have to mod the powerpak itself in any way.  And the powerpak plays all fds games.

I've never done a "disk drive repair", you mean a fds drive?

And for ordering a nes to famicom adapter I recommend this one:

I think I heard the issue is that rgb in fds games takes a mod to make look right. Not really sure.

Yeah I don't have a contact in japan to net me a reasonable price av famicom. Could be looking at another 100 for one if it's an impulse buy. On top of the over 100 a powerpak costs to run fds games on one. More economical to just get my drive fixed.

second half of this video is a fds game running from a powerpak and looking great.  Ignore the audio glitch I think it's just a bad rom file.  All fds games I've run on the powerpak on this rgb machine run fine with no video glitching.

but it's up to you  ;)

It's not a problem. Just your idea means paying shipping on an av famicom from japan, followed by to and from canada to mod it.

You could tell the seller to mail it here.  You might want to first discuss with me in pm all the costs involved in the various modding stages.

Let me settle down. Sorry. I tend to repeat myself or phrase things oddly when tired.

Those pictures are really bad, here's a close up of an original NES I modded 1/2 years ago on an LCD.
This model had no video interference.

2nd picture is on my SONY RGB CRT.

Oh okay I figured out how to get a toaster nes jailbar free when rgb modded.  It has nothing to do with "knowing what you're doing" it simply depends on the pcb revision.  The nes-cpu-10 and nes-cpu-11 toasters I mucked with before both had jailbars but this cheap nes-cpu-06 doesn't have jailbars.  That was a simple fix...

I also got the audio upgrade working fully on this system
