133MHz's Tips for GameCube ISO Burning:

1) Burn them with ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com) at the lowest speed possible.
2) Don't use cheap DVD-Rs, your 'cube won't read them/get read errors all the time.
3) You may need to adjust laser power output, it's a very simple procedure. You need a digital multimeter and a very small screwdriver.
4) The ISO/GCM file size should be EXACTLY 1.459.978.240 bytes. If not, the image should be fixed with fstfix.
5) If playing Japanese games, you have to dedicate a separate memory card for them since data is stored in another format. Trying to save a file from your Japanese game to your normal memory card will corrupt it.

I was thinking of making it so it can play japan games, Like Doshin the Giant, and... Um.. Doshin the Giant.

If you only want to play Japanese games, do a region switch mod.

Is there anything I can do (Without a chip) to make it play burned games*

You can get a Freeloader disc to play burned games without a modchip, but IMO it's a PITA to load it and swap every time you want to play a game. Get a modchip. XenoGC's are about 10~20 bucks a pop, totally worth it.

Not the first, sorry.

Gamecube freeloader works like a charm.
You can't play backups, but imports from any region. Which was good enough for me.

Gamecubes aren't expenisve at all around where I live anymore....you can get one at a Wal-mart or something with 2 controllers, and a memory card for $75 and games are $20-30.  Or if you're a SUPER cheap-ass...then there is a used game store that sells 'em like new with a memory card, 2 controllers and your choice of a game for $30

Lone Gamecubes at this game store (w/ cables) start at $3 ;D

The Gamecube is an underrated system and it deserves more respect. It was a great system and Nintendo still focused on hardcore gamers when it was out. Nintendo is now a company that doesn't care anymore about hardcore gamers. They only care about casual gamers now, sad isn't it?  :( I miss the old Nintendo.

You forget that Nintendo is a business. They set out to make money. How do you make the greatest amount of money? By trying to appeal to the largest audience. The average gamer is 25 or so now, So they want adult oriented games. The problem is that adult targeted games have taken all sorts of flak by parents because their kids also want to play them. So by making general all-ages casual games, nintendo hopes to target kids and adults alike.

The other thing that Nintendo is doing almost single handedly by making casual games is attracting more women to gaming. Women historically did not play videogames, but that is slowly starting to change due to Nintendo's efforts.

Because of the market share that children and women combined represent, I don't think the "old" Nintendo will ever resurface.

BUMP.

Mostly related, but I am having trouble running backups on my wii.

I have Backup Launcher channel installed, And I have used Two kinds of DVD.

Lightscribe DVD+R, did not work, I didn't expect it to
Sony DVD-R, did not work.

I have read different things about this, some say you must use DVD-Rs, some say DVD+R's have worked, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do at this point.  :-\

The .iso's are the correct size, and I am using IMGBurn at 3x speed.

It's a Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition iso.

I'm not sure we should discuss current gen piratery so openly...

Instead of trying to play your backup copy, how about you just play your original copy?

nintendodork

Because then he can't play his insanely modded WarioWare: Twisted!

That would be awesome if someone modded the microgame$ of that game :P

nurd's not giving links to the software much less tell you how to install/run it. He's just saying which brands of DVD-Rs were tested on his console, which is anecdotal evidence and couldn't even be considered as fact since every console is so variable (not every one of them like the same discs).

manuel

That's true, but you know how stupid companies can get when it comes to their current gen consoles and copying their stuff.
In favour for nurd I assume he of course has the original, but doesn't want to risk scratching it.

nintendodork

Yeah!  nurd is just "taking extra precautions" ;)

Every time I take a Wii or Gamecube game case off the shelf, they all fall over. :P

Also, I like keeping them in their cases; I hate having to switch them out, too.

It would be easier just to be able to take some burned game dvd and not need to care if it gets scratched 'just make another one'.
