Hmm...well, now I'm thinking to buy a PowerPak, and having a pirate cart is just about as good as having a ROM..so I'll say no for now.  Sorry..  :-X

that and repros use eproms and degrade over time. whereas pirate carts don't (as far as i know).

Most places have a lifetime warranty on their eproms.

I don't think pirates could be that much better ::) Unless they were built by a very good company.

Are older pirates with the bigger boards better built than the new pirates I have seen with a small board and tons of games??? or is it just better technology?

I'm actually surprised with SC '92: RECCA being more or less "The Holy Grail" of Famicom collecting/gaming that no one has ever thought to just start making bootlegs of it en mass and then put them up on eBAY for like $35.00 or something.  That person would make some money I'm sure.  I remember when some dude was selling reprints/boots (I believe, could be mistaken on that) of Galaxy Policewoman SAPPHIRE for the Arcade Card CD-ROM PC ENGINE awhile back.  Unless one was super anal (Monk), or knew what to look for, most would not have know they were repros or boots.  But for the prices that some of these games go for... I just makes me scratch my head.

I don't like "sanctioning" pirate stuff, but in certain cases (especially within the FC collecting/playing hobby) it just cannot be avoided, and it amazes me how more individuals or the usual suspects from mainland China, don't see the pattern here.  Hope you get that pirate Recca FC game Nintendodork.  ;)

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think Recca is a really mediocre game. No one would give a shit about it if it wasn't so rare.

FAMICOMfag

Mediocre ?  :-\

What about the impressive way it pushes the famicom to the max ? with all those sprites everywhere, and the impressive speed at which it goes... And what about the amazing soundtrack too, the graphical style is really beautiful and fits the game really well. Gameplay is also solid, with a very good power up system, though it IS very difficult.

ah well, I guess Léo and Donatello will never agree with each other  ;D

All of that's fine but the game is virtually unplayable, and certainly not fun. The most important thing about games are being able to have fun playing them imo.

Really?

I've only seen a YouTube video of the game and have
been "Wanting" of this particular shooter myself, but if
it's insanely hard then maybe it's not worth the over inflated
prices it goes for?  To me it's about on the level with SAPPHIRE
for PC ENGINE ACD (equivalent), at least in the looks and SFX
departments anyhow.

I wish there was an AREA 88 port/hack to the 8-BIT Famicom
though... that be the shiznits right there.  Super Fami is cool, but
I like the 8-BIT, don't understand why it was never done by a pirate
company.???

Play it on an emulator before shelling out hundreds for the cart. If you're anything like me you'll be disappointed.

Well as far as "vertical" shooters go I like stuff like

1943: Battle of Valhalla (Famicom/NES)
Operation Code: Vapor Trail (Mega Drive)
Sonic Wings/Aero Fighters (Super Famicom)

and if SC'92: RECCA plays anything like Konami's
kick ass 8-BIT vertical shooter ***CRISIS FORCE****
then I guess I'd be happy indeed.  Up until I learned about RECCA,
I actually thought Crisis Force was the summit as far as shooters
went on the Famicom, in all honesty.  I don't do the emulation thing
much anymore and I'm just now getting used to using a Linux Asus
Eee PC laptop, so emulators and such are still going to be baby steps
for getting a re-thinking of what I normally would be doing on Windows.
Though right now I'm on the wife's HP Pavillion.

It certainly is way more difficult than Crisis Force.

Well hopefully for someone who was weened on "Shooters"
and is probably (in terms of gameplay tactics) rates a 7 out
of 10 on proficiency in them, hopefully it's not like trying to
beat RED's Gate of Thunder final two levels on DEVIL
Mode difficulty on PC ENGINE / TURBO DUO

It's worlds ahead of Crisis Force in terms of difficulty. The game was designed for a competition, not for commercial release, so naturally it is incredibly difficult.

nintendodork

It's only sort of difficult for me...if you get a bunch of power ups at the beginning, it's a breeze until about halfway through level 4
