why everybody on this forum is so addicted  with famicom pirate games? whats the deal with a super mario 8?

nensondubois

The rarity and the uniqueness. Most people here (including myself) are only looking for JY Super Mario World pirate and Somari (as well as the other Sonic pirates.)

MS-DOS4

Because its a very unique thing to collect. I personally try to buy pirate only these days.

I would love a copy of Mickey Mania, but yea pirates are great.
I prefer pirates most of the time, as in many cases it will cost me a lot less then buying an original.

lingolingo

Are there any cart photos of Panda Prince and Mickey mania?

shoggoth80

Often, it boils down to cost. Typically it is much cheaper to acquire a pirated version of a game than the original. Some pirate games ARE original works, other times, there are fun hacks or variants. Example, if you just want to play the game, a pirate copy of Snow Bros. or Recca is going to cost you a LOT less than the official release.
Some of the Mario hacks are goofy and or fun. There is a quirkiness to them that is often difficult to relate as far as WHY someone would collect them.

They're just unique and fun to discover. Official games come up all the time, no fun there. Pirates are more obscure and fun to hunt for :P

I agree with what's been said -- pirates are cheaper (most of the time) and we know about all of the licensed games but we're still discovering new original pirates.

First person to find me a pirate (not repro) of Snake Rattle N Roll wins a prize! I've still never seen that one and it's one of my favorite games...

Here ya go! 7 in 1 cart, Snake Rattle 'n Roll is SNAKE-2. Too bad the pirate MMC1 implementation is flawed and the game crashes when a certain action is done in a later stage.

Do I get a prize? ::)

JC

No because I can't buy it...but it makes me happy to know it exists somewhere, even though it's a dumb multicart.

...and why pirates? em... my answer is maybe not too subtle but simple enough :

Yar har fiddle dee dee
Being a pirate is alright to be
Do what you want cause a pirate is free
You are a pirate!

;D

Wow! A COLOR Famicom game! :o
I'd love to have it. I'm so tired of my black & white Famicom games ::)

Lol, good stuff. Also JC I love Snake Rattle N Roll, I have it for NES and Sega Mega Drive.
So eventually a Famicom pirate would also be cool for me too.

I'm not.
I like original games. And I like them in the box. :D

My personal favorite aspect of pirate Famicom games are the listings in multicarts. Sometimes they're outragously funny, like ICEDCLIMBED or CIA BATMAN or NUTS & BALLS  ;D
